Forums - Sony - The PS3 Still Does't Get The Props It Deserves

You two need to run the numbers again. Here's the OP's quote:

"However, you rarely hear people mention the fact that the PS3 which launched the same day ( and that many people at that time considered to be doomed to failure) or within a few days of the Wii has been the dominant console of this gen's latter years."

I think it's my lack of English knowledge but I really think the PS3 has been the dominant console of this gen's latter years.

It is the best selling console in the last two years.

Considering it destroyed the PS brand on the whole, witnessed a significant decline from its predecessor and has lost more money than just about every other unsuccessful console combined, the PS3 certainly doesn't deserve any praise for any objective achievements. You can go ahead and enjoy your games, but it's really stupid to say that it was anything close to as successful as the underdog that made enormous profits and has the most successful exclusives of any home/handheld console ever.

The term dominance is a bit strong for a console that sells only marginally better than the Xbox 360.

The Wii in 2007 and 2008, not only outsold both PS3 and X360 but it sold more than both of them together. That's dominance.

In 2011, the PS3 outsold X360 by 300k and in 2012 by 1.4m. That's edging out a win.

Best selling doesn't equal domination. Domination means best selling by a significant margin. The latter years of this generation are 2010-2012. In 2010 the Wii was the best selling console. In 2011 the PS3 beat the 360 by about 300k units; that's not dominance. In 2012 the PS3 won by a bigger margin than in 2011, but it was still far from dominance.

The only way someone can claim that the PS3 was dominant in this gen's latter years is if they only look at 2012 and exclude the 360.

You filthy ninja!

But can we really say that the Nintendo Wii is in the same Gen and the PS3 and xbox360? Yes the wii was released the same time as the PS3 but specs wise it pale in comparison to the ps3 and xbox 360. It dont have the same game library and its geared towards a different crowd. I would rather compare the Wii U to the PS3 and 360. I might be wrong though, im just asking because im curious about what people think.

I think the PS3 and 360 should be categorized on their own because they pretty much shared similiar specs and shared the majority of the game library.

How did the PS3 dominate the latter years, exactly?

If you look at 2009-2011 the Wii outsold it by like 8 million. Even if you include 2012, which you shouldn't considering the WiiU, then the Wii was still like 3-4 million ahead.

That isn't dominance.

2012

PS3: 11,888,848
Wii: 5,130,531

2011

PS3: 14,119,093
Wii: 11,567,105

I call that dominance in the latter years.

PS. You can even put the Wii U numbers in 2012... it's still dominance.

Yeah except that in those years you listed, the 360 is right behind the PS3. So there is still no dominance. And it's still silly to include 2012 imho because next gen started in 2012, but it doesn't matter anyway.

Why do you guys think that just because it is selling better now that means that it won the gen?
When the "final" sales come in for all 3 consoles (I.E. when they stop selling basically.) whoever is on the top is that Generations winner.

I don't know why or how you adopted this "PS3 is dominant in it's last few years = WIN!!!" strategy but it is wrong.

I love the meltdown :D

Funny how the MS/Nintendo camp went from ''Ps3 is da next Dreamcast lololo !!!!11!1!'' to ''Well, the Ps3 isn't dominating the market by definition, so HA!''

I don't know about other people, but I never thought the PS3 would be the next DreamCast.
