Forums - Nintendo - Pikmin 3, Will it Succeed or Bomb?

How much will this game sell lifetime?

Under 800k 9 4.57%

800k+ 10 5.08%

1Mil+ 28 14.21%

1.25Mil+ 15 7.61%

1.5Mil+ 28 14.21%

1.75Mil+ 10 5.08%

2Mil+ 40 20.30%

2.5Mil+ 18 9.14%

3Mil+ 39 19.80%

Total:197

I think Pikmin 3 is going to underwhelm. It won't "bomb", but it's not going to have the impact that the first one had (released nearly 12 years ago already... my got I'm getting old!), nor will it be a big console mover. I predict 350k-400k first week sales, and it'll struggle to reach a million until the holidays roll around.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I tried all of the games listed, then anything after that I read reviews to see if they fixed what I didn't like about the game and they had not.

Pikmin 3's global time limit puts me off completely.

No I did NOT like SMG2. It was the same platforms-in-space developer-playground mess and SMG but minus a cool soundtrack.

I played Pikmin when I was little and trust me, the time limit didn't put a damper on the game one bit.

How didn't you like SMG 2 when you liked SMG? They were the same thing. (Bolded.)

I didn't like SMG.

Oh sorry. I thought you meant the games you listed were the last of your favourites.

None of the games that you listed were bad though. You need to stop relying on reviews to figure if you'll like the game or not. If you don't like it then just return it before it's expiration. I bet some of the games you thought you wouldn't like aren't half bad.

actually if he relied on the reviews then he would have liked most of the games he listed

he just likes old 2d games

I played all of those games except B/W all the way through myself and didn't like them.

I like things by hating them. Including ponies.

Depends how good the game is. If it's better than the previous ones were, adding in a bit of a post launch software drought for early adoptes. Pikmin 3 has the potential to be the best selling titles. But personally I see about 1 million in sales. I just hope it breaks even because I love Pikmin, it's the reason I got a Wii U really.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Stylus tapping on gamepad to throw pikmins will prove too addicting. Strong legs will propel this franchise to new heights.

I love it when sequels are divisive even well before release. My favorite game was the epitome of such a thing.

In any case, Pikmin 3 is shaping up to be somewhere between Pikmin 1 and 2 in terms of overall gameplay. Which is fine by me, because there should be a better balance between difficulty and open experimentation.

@ Soleron...
I'm not trying to pick a fight. I was truly interested in your opinion about why games sell.

But reading through the rest of this thread makes me think you *want* there to be a referendum against the games Nintendo has been making. You are doing sales projections not with an analytical mind, but rather with wishful thinking...much the same way that Pachter has been doing.

I think Pikmin will sell well (if it is a good title) simply because it will be released within the first year of the system. Nintendo gamers will be starved for a genuine Nintendo experience and will be happy to pick it up for that reason alone. Also, I think the sales figures for the previous two entries don't paint an accurate picture. There was no Pikmin released on the Wii, Pikmin was a new IP during the GC era, and the Pikmin have gained attention both because of their inclusion in SSBB as well as Nintendoland, the latter providing one of the more challenging, rewarding, and well received attractions in Nintendo's themed minigame collection.
