I like the Ratchet & Clank games but in all seriousness every game is pretty much the same, the series needs to end. Resistance was a much better series and even sold a lot more then any of the latest R&C games. Was it a bad move to end Resistance? Should Insominiac stop making R&C and focus on different new games?

Because Resistance, with each new game, sold worse and worse until, finally, the franchise ended up with Burning Skies. Ratchet and Clank isn't doing much better, but they're still reasonably consistent and probably far less costly to make. Simply put, it's what happens when a series starts running its course and should be finished.

Insomniac needs to find their new, big idea and work with it.

So they should stop making R&C because it is stale and repetitive, and the solution is make a another shooter?

If anything shooters have gotten even more stale and repetitive, not to mention a completely over saturated market for that genre.

I didn't say they should be making another shooter Id be open to anything.

1. Resistance 3 has very disappointing sales. The FPS market is very competitive.
2. It takes much more money to make a Resistance game than it does to make a Ratchet & Clank game. In fact R&C games are so cheap to make, that they are able to sell the newest release for $20 on Day 1 at retail.
3. Resistance is competing directly with Killzone on PS3. Sony probably doesn't like that. They own both IP so they probably don't want Insomniac making any more.

After FUSE flops they will be back to making new games for Sony.

Ratchet & Clank is their safety net. For minimal effort, there will still be a dedicated fanbase who pick up the games. They're just treading water with the franchise until the next 'main' game, and using the time to experiment.

Insomniac were, throughout the PS3's life, one of the most productive studios for Sony. In the same time period that Naughty Dog made Uncharted 1 + 2, Insomniac had made two full-length Ratchet games, two full-length Resistance games and a shorter-length Ratchet game. They've always been running a pretty big roster with the ability to make two games at once. They just split the Burbank team up and made the North Carolina Studio, who made the last two Ratchet games.

I'd imagine it's much safer for them to make more Ratchet than to take a gamble on another new IP (Fuse is enough of a gamble as it is), or continue making Resistance titles which were very much on the decline.

I honestly don't believe they'll stop making Ratchet. Or at the very least, we'll see a proper PS4 entry. They seem very attached to the franchise, Sony seem happy to have him front and centre as a mascot, so it works for everyone. And with two teams, they can afford to do this.

Maybe the Ratchet & Clank games are using recycled assets?

Well I think it is safe to say that Sony fans are still resentful about Insomniac making the transition from a exclusive developer to a third party developer. Anyway I think a lot of you are just being petty. This relationship was Sony's to lose, and apparently that is exactly what they did. Instead of criticizing Insomniac for doing what was best for them. You should be venting your frustrations at Sony. For losing you a really good exclusive developer.

That said I do think that Fuse is going to perform poorly in the marketplace, but I doubt it would have performed any better if it were another Resistance title, or even if it were exclusive. I don't even think it will have anything at all to do with the games inherent quality. After all it looks like a Borderlands/Dead Island clone, and that genre isn't even anywhere near saturation point. Those types of games are fairly popular right now.

No the problem is that the release date is going to be positively brutal on the title, and I sincerely hope that they see that, and decide to delay the title for another six months to a year. As it stands right now it is going to be up against titles like Dead Island Riptide, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto, and Dead Space 3, and that is excluding high profile exclusives.

Even if it ends up with a meta rating of over ninety percent. It is going to be really hard for them to get noticed surrounded by both established, and storied franchises. Had this title been scheduled to arrive last fall, or even late last summer. Even the haters would have given it more of a benefit of the doubt, but the upcoming months are just so slammed with goodness. That if it isn't delayed, or other highly anticipated titles aren't delayed. It is just going to go unnoticed.

I just have one more thing to add. The double standards on these forums are getting a tad bit obnoxious. There is a point when hypocrisy moves from being humorous to outright obscene. Many of you have probably argued that the Vita deserves more time before it can be judged, and get cross with people who suggest otherwise. That point of view might have some merit, but you discredit yourself, and the argument that you are making. When you are equally willing to judge a game as terribly flawed three months before it launches.

It isn't just that you are inconsistent, but that you are being painfully disingenuous with everyone else on these forums. Would any of you like to be treated with the same discourtesy that you are showing to this developer. Brand loyalty and your own hurt feelings aren't substitutions for reasoning. You can hold a grudge against them if you like, but don't paint it like you are giving them a fair shake in the first place.

There is something seriously wrong with the Sony fans on these forums. Bungie leaves Microsoft, and the Microsoft fans are still interested in their games, and still think they are a good studio even if they aren't exclusive anymore. Nintendo fans still praised Factor 5 after it started development of a PS3 exclusive title. Yet here we are with Sony fans shitting on Insomniacs first game for multiple platforms. Come on folks you have to be better then this.

As a long time die hard Insomniac Games fan who has bought pretty much all of their games except for Spyro 2 and 3, I personally wish they stop making Ratchet and Clank games for now... And yeah this is coming from a R&C nut fan. I want them to take a break from R&C, work on other games, then come back like 5 years latet to make R&C feel fresh and something special again.

Having said that I want FUSE a lot :)

This topic is not even about Fuse, so I do not know why you are going so off topic. Having said that Insomniac has not really shown much of Fuse to be judged yet in my opinion. I think Fuse becoming a failure is bad news for anyone who has liked insomniacs games in the past. They might have to resize their development team, and not have as much trust from publishers to make big budget games.

OT: I think they gave up resistance because of the sheer amount of resources it takes. With each game they have to show that they are doing things differently and that takes a lot of $ and resources. With Ratchet and Clank they usually can do similar things that they did with previous games.
