Forums - Sony - Why did Insomniac discontinue Resistance even though their still making Ratchet and Clank?

I like the Ratchet & Clank games but in all seriousness every game is pretty much the same, the series needs to end. Resistance was a much better series and even sold a lot more then any of the latest R&C games. Was it a bad move to end Resistance? Should Insominiac stop making R&C and focus on different new games?

Based on their new game they need to reevaluate their direction completely.

I'm guessing that ressistance is more expensive to make...

My guess would be that Ratchet&clank doesn't take that much money to make and they all sell 1M+ while resistance has a budget of 10-15million music animation voice acting......

They will stop making R&C soon too. They are going multiplatform and won't be making any Sony owned IPs once their contracts are complete. Sony will just assign R&C and Resistance to some other internal studio.

Fuse looks great. It looks much better now then it did when they first debuted it. I'm glad they'll be able to reach a broader audience. No 3rd party developer should do anything other than multiplatform games.

How are sequels to Resistance not basically the same while R&C games are being called basically the same? That said, the main problem people seem to have with the newer R&C games is that they are not the same as whatever entry in the series made them a fan.

Never liked Resistance much, R&C on the other hand is an amazing franchise! Yeah the last 2 titles haven't been to great I just think they need to take things back the roots or give captain Qwark his own game :P

what looks great about fuse? I like the idea of specialized classes and team participation but those games never work out. Other than that it looks extremely generic from it's name to it's look to it's story line. The latest video I watched on it seemed like ted price was trying to convince everyone how this new direction is better because of the backlash it recieved

Oh hell no captain Qwark is an ass who would sell his own mother to get the spotlight. I actually laughed at his funeral in R&C 3.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

It's not generic. What about it is generic? Just because it's a team of special agents with advanced alien tech doesn't mean it's generic. The game looks fun, the characters seem cool, and the setting is interesting.

I'm so tired of people accusing everything of being generic. Halo, Killzone, Crysis, Gears of War, are not generic yet I've seen countless attacks on them by snarky jRPG lovers who think anything with a space marine is some kind of blight on gaming. You know what seems generic to me? jRPGs with their teenager heroes, spikey hair, and giant swords. But they aren't generic, I'm just less interested in them than other games so I don't look deeper. You know what really is generic, those bargin bin games you see piles of at Walmart. The ones you've never heard of with titles like "Horse Trainer" and "Farm Simulator 2012". Those are generic.

Unique does not equal better and tropes do not make things suck.

Oh and the title "Fuse" isn't generic either. How many games have used that word for the titles before? I think the number is pretty low. It refers to the game's weapon mechanics which Insomniac has tried to get the word out on. But sadly too many Sony fanboys are upset that it's not a PS3 exclusive so the game gets poo pooed by at least one person every time it gets mentioned.
