Why did Insomniac discontinue Resistance even though their still making Ratchet and Clank?

How are sequels to Resistance not basically the same while R&C games are being called basically the same? That said, the main problem people seem to have with the newer R&C games is that they are not the same as whatever entry in the series made them a fan.
