Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Should Buy The 007/Bond License

Screw the James Bond license. Yeah, I said it. There were Bond games before Goldeney and there were Bond games, after. The reason we care isn't because of the license. It's because the game using the license was so good (by 1997 standards). Nintendo should just create and 100% own their own FPS or TPS IP. That way, there is no issue ten years from now when an agreement goes down the drain.

The thing is can Nintendo even create a character that would be as popular? The clock is ticking on both the 3DS and Wii U now.

GoldenEye helped other IP on the N64 too, I think it helped Perfect Dark a lot and certainly boosted Turok 2 as well.

In most cases I would agree, but truth be told, I just don't have a lot of faith in Nintendo being able to create a character as cool and wide appealling as James Bond.

Not to mention I don't think they would be willing to spend huge dollars on a completely unproven IP. Nintendo loves what they already know.

Well i personally dont care cuz most of 007 games suck right now like 007 Legends , if it is good as the n64 golden eye well GREAT! nintendo got a very good FPS game.

Amp316 is gonna hunt you down and make you suffer!

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Well sony owns 007 in general. They have the license for the name so if Nintendo wants the game license they must talk to Sony to make the deal.

Sony has 0 rights to the Bond license.

They are one of the three studios that help distribute the last few Bond films, they're not even the main studio behind them, that would MGM/United Artists, which are under another company on top of that -- Danjaq/EON (THEY own the Bond license and say who gets what, Sony doesn't say sh*t).

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I think it's a worthwhile investment for Nintendo because they need a franchise character that people recognize other than just Mario all the time.

That doesn't sell the core players.

But why do you think games like Sonic, Lego franchise, Skylanders, etc. rarely miss Nintendo platforms? Because those devs know there's an audience for family oriented content on Nintendo platforms. Mario paves the way.

Bond could be a similar beacon for Nintendo and encourage other devs to give similar type of support (games aimed primarily at an older demographic), if Nintendo put the same effort into making a Bond game as they do with Mario/DKC/Zelda titles. If it becomes a series that sells 3-5 million every time out for Nintendo, then other devs will see it and say "hey, there definitely is an audience for edgier stuff on Nintendo platforms".

I would say that's worth it, even if it's only a 5-10 year contract.
