Kowenicki is right about the effect of holiday on these numbers (2 days before christmas). I was hoping better numbers based on this, I think a lot of holidays sales happens in the last days.

Next week numbers will look depressive compare to this, only japan can help.

Nintendo is not dominant anymore. Wii is dying, Wii U is not a "boom" yet.

3DS are doing so so, good for it is cycle, but bad compare to good DS momentum.

By the way, total numbers per company:

Nintendo: 1.279.236

Sony: 832.224

Microsoft: 420.745

3DS is over 1.1 million hardware sales ahead of DS aligned LTD.

I know that, the_dengle. 3DS is doing good for now, beating DS at this stage, but these numbers can't be compare with DS sales in it's best age (almost 2 million per week next to christmas and over 400k in any other week in any month).

I think we need to consider: 3DS is not so profitable (just now it is) and already received a big price cut and a new model.

I hope that 2013 will give us better numbers (3DS really deserves this).

I have a feeling the PS3 is going to absolutely smash the 360 these coming months and take second place from it by 3rd quarter (barring a big 360 price cut).

Nice to see Halo 4 doing so good. 7.4 million sold this year and by the end of next year it should be around 9.4-9.8 million. Lifetime it should settle around Halo 3's sales

Wii outsells WiiU everywhere but in Japan. Hopefully that won't be the case much longer...

Why don't you want the Wii U to continue outselling the Wii in Japan?

Impressive PS3 figures, especially north american figures, i think "if the 360 doesn't have a pricedrop" the PS3 could outsell the 360 in north america for once..lol :)

I dont.

I also think its odd that in the US the 360 drops almost 60%, the 3DS over 50% the WiiU almost 50%, but PS3 drops just over 30%.

The numbers this week are very odd.  Look at the post I made about PSP and PSV.

Oh for god's sake, stop whining. If you don't trust the numbers than wait for NPD and Nintendo's investor briefing charts. If anything our numbers are probably low in Japan. Sales keep going up there until New Years.

I wasn't whining, I was pointing out some obvious anomalies.  And if you knew anything you would know that the Japanese numbers will be easy to check within a few days as we get MC and famitsu.  And sales dont "keep going up until new years" in Japan... check your facts pal, they usually drop from last week of dec to 1st week of Jan then rise again.  OK?

It depends when New Year's is in the tracking period. I do think it's odd that global hardware is tracking above the pace of last year when that hasn't been the case all year, even with the extra days before Christmas this year. I really hope 2013 is a good year for Wii U / 3DS, otherwise the global industry is going to have its 5th consecutive year of contraction. That's along time - usually there are only 2-3 years of contraction in the transition from one cycle to the next.

Pardon me, I'm rather on edge. I've had a long and stressful day. The point I was trying to get across was we'll have all the hard data that we need in a relatively short time anyway.

Ps3 doing very nice.

If MS doesnt do a huge price drop WW then they will concede 2nd to the PS3. A huge price drop for 360 down to $99 might hold off Sony long enough but other than that looks like the 360 is really slowing. At least acording to VGC. It will be interesting to see what NPD shows

They don't seem to be in the mood to cut the price any further from what I have read. They may or may not cut the price it really depends on their priorities, they cut the price in 2008 when noone expected as deep a cut and they refused to cut the price in response to the PS3 cut to $249 when everyone expected one. I think perhaps it depends on how popular their 'finance' deal is with people and their appetite for lower margins and/or profits.

Another point we should consider is that they have been putting more effort into 'others' regions in the world lately like Brazil for instance so given the large proportion of sales attributed there in these charts a swing there could totally change the results as these regions have very little coverage.

Tease.

Yay, glorious numbers.

While they may indeed be a little odd, they're still very interesting to see.

Vita's hold seems almost too good, especially in Europe. Although, I have a feeling Europe is going to be Vita's strongest market over the next few months. Sony seemed to be throwing everything and the kitchen sink at advertising it over here, maybe some of it has stuck.

PS3 - 360 gap also seems too big, imo. I know PS3 is expected to hold better after a holiday period, but still. I'm also wondering about the Wii-U's numbers (quite a big drop in the USA) and PSP's numbers (I know Japan's buying habits are different to ours, but that's an incredible good hold over there).

Biggest surprise for me is Halo 4 though. That's some legs this game is having. kudos to it. I had the pleasure of playing it in multi-player with some friends tonight and - although the game modes we played were extremely hit and miss - overall I had a lot of fun with it. (And I was most impressed by how well the framerate held up in 4 player!)

>_> I meant the other way around

sure you did..../sarcasm

Technically, your post was ambiguous. But I see the true meaning in your post and I don't like it.

I agree that profit is more important than marketshare at this point but I keep remembering at E3 when MS strait up said they will outsell the PS3 this generation.

Nothing short of a massive price drop at this point will ensure that.  Unless the tracking in Europe and Others here is wrong it appears Sony is rapidly gaining

3DS considerably up YoY
PS3 up YoY
PSV massively up YoY, but last year it was already launched only in Japan.
XB360 just a little bit down YoY and of the others, only Wii is considerably down, but now its successor is already out.

Overall HW sales are almost 10% up YoY.
