Just wondering. With no BC I feel like a couple million would've been possible with no phats having BC. PS3 didn't sell a whole lot in the first couple years so it wouldn't be monumental. I'll say 3 million higher.

I'd say it's completely negligible.
Not many people played PS2 games on the PS3, and PS2 continued to be bought mostly by people who couldn't afford the then still very expensive PS3, such as those in poorer markets. Not many PS3s with actual hardware backwards compatibility were sold, if I'm not wrong.
EDIT: what a stupid, unresearched reply. Dammit I'm talking out of my ass.

Maybe 300k. Probably less. Who else but hardcore playstation fans bought the initial PS3, at $600, with its terrible gaming library for nearly two years. Everyone who bought one already had a PS2. There are obviously a few exceptions, hence the 300k. A better question would be how well would the ps2 have sold if sony decided to not drastically cut the price in 2009 with the slim, and instead focus on profibility. That could have been a difference of quite a few million.
What a stupid thread, who cares? It's already the best selling console of all time, be satisfied with that!
PS2 was outselling the PS3 when the PS3 launched. The PS3 didn't affect the PS2's sales. I think the better question should be, how much more would the PS3 have sold if the PS2 was discontinued right away.
