Forums - Sales - XPlay vs. IGN: which has the bigger influence on sales?

Cast your vote here and attempt to back it up.

(Yes, this relates to the XPlay and IGN No More Heroes review threads, but my hope is that here we can actually come to a consensus opinion as to which matters more without it erupting into a "YOU SUCK!" NO, YOU SUCK!" war.)

never heard of xplay so i'll say IGN

IGN

G4 has been going down the tubes in gamers minds for years.

isnt xplay some sort of video review???

Owner of all consoles cept DS.....Currently in love with prototype!

What do you mean?

For the hardcore crowd IDK?

But for the casual crowd? Neither

Casual gamers or should I say the mass audience do not look at reviews before buying a game. It's generally word-of-mouth for them.

The Hardcore crowd which are us, generally look at reviews. As for me all I like to play is Japanese games and a little bit of American/Europe games. But I favor Japanese games more.

Gametrailers

Reviews play almost no part in affecting sales. Why? Games sell off of brand not quality. Although that changes for the most hardcore, the percentage of hardcore gamers that listen to reviews is minimal.

Basically games sell because of brand, meaning the more you mention the name, the more user will know about it and buy it. Why do you think IGN started up a buy Z&W campaign. To try and get as many people to just hear the name. Just came to little too late.

So who mentions games more and puts up more big brand things. I would say IGN cause its a website with 24 hr access, and not to mention unlimited resources. If IGN hypes up a game it has a better chance of getting increased sales. Z&W went from bomb to only a semi bomb.

stop spamming Leo **EDIT and soriku, the question was Xplay or IGN. gametrailers and rankings have nothing to do with the question that was asked!!!

hit ranking for IGN: #146
" " " Xplay: #6,186

therefore, IGN would have a much bigger influence

Bet With routsounmanman: By the end of Q1 2008 Capcom WONT have announced a RE5 Wii Edition OR a new RE (classic gameplay) for the Wii (WON)

IGN.

I love Adam and Morgan (okay, I like Adam a lot more) and I watch Xplay review and I even have Xplay video podcast.

but I'd kid myself if I say xplay has more influence comparing with a major game website.

Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

Tales/IU/TLR should get to 2 or 3 million! post id: 868878

Letsdance: FFXIII (PS3+360) first week in NA = 286K
According to pre-order rate in week 13 (post id: 2902544)

For what it's worth, I agree that IGN probably has a bigger impact.

For many of the reasons above (24/7 access at people's leisure, the general feeling that G4 sucks these days, the fact that casuals don't care one way or the other.)
