I think in two years Sony will be history, perhaps some parts of Sony survive, but the playstation brand will be gone. Face the facts the "Playstation" is not a big name anymore. 10 years ago it was the synonyme for consoles for many people, and perhaps better recognized as "nintendo" but today the playstation brand has lost its recognition value.

The PS3 has lost billions of dollar and is the third (last) place in the current consoles cycle. The PSP got only popular in Japan. PSP redesigns like the PSPgo were big flops. The Vita is a worldwide flop. With the very cheap look-and-feel of the last PS3 redesign Sony hurts the playstation brand brand even brown.

Sonys gaming division loses money every year since six years. There has been some marginally profitable quarters but overall the gaming division burned billions of dollars.

If (to be honest it is not an "if", IT WILL HAPPEN only the point in time in the next two years is unknown) Sonys is a the end and will be liquidated the gaming division will be one part that will get not many attention. It not has lost as many money as other parts of Sony but it has lost money always. There will be not many interest to continue the playstation brand because obviously there is no future for the PS4 without investing billions of dollars. But with PS3 and Vita already money burner no investors would raise an eyebrow for this. Perhaps the brand will be sold and use for other technical things (like brands like "commodore" and "atari" has been) a few years after commodore (C64, AMIGA) collapsed.

And it will not suddenly turn out good in the end. Face the facts, Sony is at the end of its history and will be liquidated soon. Many people already wrote facts based articles (me too: http://www.zimmer101.de/wiiu-spiele/sonys-niedergang.html ). Even so I prefer Nintendo games I feel bad about Sonys slow death. In the next ten years we will see if and how Microsoft and Nintendo survive.

I don't know why anyone would think the PlayStation division would be going anywhere. They have been releasing New IPS and Exclusives every year. That is more than you could say for Nintendo and Microsoft, who are making a lot more money than Sony.

Nintendo and Microsoft have enough money to take chances and what chances do you see them making as of lately. I'm not talking about systems; 3D and the second screen were gambles and paid off for them. But when you mention Nintendo, your conversation will always have a Mario, Zelda or Pokémon game in it. Same with Microsoft, you think of Halo, Gears and Forza or what next shooter will they release next.

At least with Sony, you can expect the unexpected and different IPs, even if they decided to use the same characters of their existing IPs. They have some of the best Devs, which are not scared to move on from their old IPs and past them on to someone else.


I think the PlayStation division will be around, well past 2 years. If any company can bleed money and still offer a great offer on PlayStation Plus and so many rented(free) games, then they are not going anyway.

They really need to do something about their TV's.

Sony's gaming division makes sony money now. You are talking about the tv division of sony that never posted a profit for 6 years. I swear you want microsoft and nintendo in the market and sony out. If sony does go out, i will play only on pc or get the steam box because less competition = bad for the consumer. You know why microsoft adds more features to the xbox 360? not just because of them wanting to make it a multi media system but because of competition. Competition pushes the other company to do something. plain and simple. The PS Vita is not gouging sony of money like the ps3 was because sony makes PS Vita's when someone orders it(target, walmart, etc.) and every vita wifi model breaks even and the PS Vita wifi/3g model makes sony money.

I am no fanboy. I don't want microsoft to go anywere, i don't want nintendo to go anywere and i don't want sony to go anywere. Sony is stabalizing but not much.

These are facts and not opinions. By no means do i want to anger you but you talked out of your a** and its true. Yes sony is in trouble but so is others. Zynga,thq,panasonic,and others.  Have a good day

They should just cut their losses and pull out of TV's and Cameras etc... Keep gaming and music and your major money makers. If they can't get rid of those two items then at least make yourself more competitive in the market.

You are wrong about cameras (digital imaging). Its one of their most important businesses and they have industry leading tech there. Their lens is used in most popular phones, including iphone.

1)too big to fail and the japanese government will never let a company with so many workers go down.(compared to eg GM sony is pretty healthy and GM is still alive)

2)they finally got rid of howard stringer as boss who is responsible for the desastrous tv selling(sadly his brother is still there).

3)they only need to sell their us broadcasting tv and hollywood companies and they would be completely out of trouble + some billions .

4)japan is printing more and more money,having more and more debts=the yen will go down in the next 5 years and only this should be enough to turn the billion loss into billion profits because a strong yen will make japans industry extremly strong and competetiv.Sadly us rating agencies(the strongest weapon of the us and anglosaxon bankers) refuse to downgrade japan because of us interests,because they know,as soon as the yen is weak the japanese will never ever let the yen get strong again(the same game south korea and china are playing)
