Entirely your fault. You were supposed to ask, "Would you like fries with that, you crazy bitch?"

Having worked in a customer facing environment for a long time if I get someone who is rude and I feel I can't treat professionally, I simply say I can't/won't help them any further but they can speak to my manager. In most cases they suddenly become more polite when they realize that their bullying tactics have failed. I wouldn't have given the woman the satisfaction of seeing me snap.
You should of told her you where going to sue.

I fully understand your situation here, but you could've reacted in a much more classy manner. Many years ago I worked for Sprint's customer care. I once got this call from this american "lady", who only wanted to get a free phone or something from me. I gave her all the options we had but she didn't like them. She started to insult me, and among the things she said to me, she said "why don't you go back to your side of the river?" (I 'm from Mexico). I can't write here what I replied to her, since I could be banned for racism, but I made her cry and hang on me. Good thing is that call was not monitored, nor I left any record on her account, so I got away with it.
... That's a bad example isn't it?
Your fault, but I would have done the same thing...maybe without the swearing though.
Both of you were at fault - but she can't be fired - She's the customer.. She can't be charged for assault for throwing a cheeseburger either..
Since YOU were working to provide a service for someone else .. You weren't paying attention or you wouldnt have made that mistake.. You should've sucked it up ( when she threw the burger at you) .. Your co-workers and other customers that witnessed it would've seen you as a bigger man if you would've reacted more calmly..
Anyone could've reacted the way you did.. that's the easy way.. it takes more patience and self control the react the other way ( the way you didn't ) .. The manager was obligated to fire you because if he didn't he would set up the company for a lawsuit ( by basically saying WE Burger King agree with this guys reaction and personal philosophy ) ...
If wouldn't matter if you were the company President - You would've been ousted by the shareholders for reacting the way you did to a customer.. When you work ANYWHERE - you are getting paid to serve the customers - The customers are the ONLY reason any business exist.. REMEMBER that my young Padawan
her's. i'd have beat her's and my managers ass, after being fired. but that's because i don't favor taking shit from anyone.
she should have told you of the issue. she acted unprofessionally. yes throwing a bugger is an act of aggression, and i'd have called the cops on a hostile customer
orders get fucked up all the time, and the majority of customers who's orders get fucked up either, respond rationally and get the order corrected, or complain and get the order corrected.

no that was a great example but it didn't help. i'd have hung up on her (after explaining why she couldn't get a free phone. doing it in away which would have made her fine with it, but pissed she couldn't get a free phone) after giving her every option, or called the manager.
FD's situation was different. this women threw a bugger at him, which is an act of aggression, and can be considered an act of violence. throwing that bugger made her an hostile customer.
