Anyone find it strange, that the vita performs best in north america? just never expected that

I wouldn't say 'best'. 'Least shit' is more appropriate.

OT: In Japan, when the 3DS was released the DS' sales took a huge nosedive and flat-lined. Why didn't that happen with the PSP when the Vita was released?

I'm really not sure, but couldn't be the western orientation of the Vita be a reason? With Monster Hunter etc. being on the PSP, but not on the Vita there wasn't much of a reason for them to do the transition. Seemingly higher development cost and the missing backwards compatibilty won't have helped either. In contrast to that the 3DS has the big japanese franchises and full BC, so no one has a reason to buy the old NDS anymore. Also, development costs for the 3DS seem to be lower (I recall reading that somewhere but have no source right now), just like the device itself (and its memory card).

Why does the DS sell so well in America?

360 smashing up in N.America sales,

the WiiU will pick up in EU just like the Vita will pick up in Japan,just needs price points and games that people will jump into,of course beating their predecessors is another game altogether

I'd say the Wii U sales in EU is very bleak... 60k in it's third week?? That's no where good.

It does *look* bleak, that's my point. Appearances are deceiving.

Xbox 360 3rd week: 71,000

Wii 3rd week: 155,000

PS3 3rd week: 69,000

3DS 3rd week: 57,000

Vita 3rd week: 43,000

Also, it's not 60k, it's just under 70k for Wii U. Which puts it right around where the 360 and PS3 sat.

But 360's launch was abysmal and PS3's 3rd week was in April, not the high point of the holiday season.

Times do change, though, my friend.

I think people are taking more of a wait and see approach - and in the case of Europe, I don't really expect them to ever warm up to the Wii U all that much.

USA = XBOX

EU = Sony

Jpn = Nintendo

I can live with that even though I'm from the US and prefer Sony consoles / Nintendo handhelds.

With regards to the Wii U, here in the UK the system is stored with the Wii, not separately. The games are also not on display, only the Wii ones. So confusing indeed. HOWEVER, I was told that the Wii U would get its own area after Christmas, so who knows.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I can live with that, too, although I'm from Germany and prefer Xbox :) I don't see a problem with that as PS3 is still selling good in US and X360 selling good in EU. Not being first does not mean being bad ;)

Where exactly are you shopping?  In Tesco & ASDA it has a separate section, at least where I live.  In my local GAME it's the first thing you see as you walk through the door.  It also has a section opposite 360 in my local HMV.

The only chain of shops in my local area which doesn't have a separate Wii-U section (that I've noticed) is Grainger Games.  Maybe they do have one, but it wasn't as obvious as the other stores which I mentioned.
