Forums - Sony - PS3 hits 30 million lifetime sales across PAL regions

hmm no way 360 is only at 24m

its 22.5m here at Europe and probably 1.5m in AUS, unless you are only couting those 2 yes but PAL includes way more countries.

PS3 is at 27.5m here and 30 million for Sony... so 360 is at 22.5m here and 24m using the sames proportion.

hmm something is not right with these numbers.

Yeap... VGC uses some countries for Europe... Sony uses others for Europe.

It's like the Nintendo chartz.

You can do a proportion to compare the numbers but without knows the countries used in the numbers is impossible to really make comparisons.

yes of course they would, but it didnt, so they arent.

get it?

now go bait someone else, but before you do take a look at the thread I linked just above in reply to CGI.  Didn't see you in that one belly aching over some kind of paranoid agenda.  Look forward to your first thread and first constructive post.  I might have to wait a while though eh?

So then don't make statements that aren't true and stop with this ridiculous agenda of desperately trying to get the PS3 numbers lowered and the Xbox360 numbers raised all the time, it's getting very old.

Maybe he's just trying desperately to stop or slow the inevitable.  And if the PS3 is overtracked in those regions, then most likely the 360 is, too.  But, since we don't know exactly what territories this covers, there's really no idea how VGC's numbers compare.  I would guess they are probably spot on or slightly overtracked.  Of course, that would mean we have it undertracked in Others, because of Sony's recent shipment numbers.

@ OP

Congrats, Sony.  Can't wait for the big 40.

Looking at the actual number it's a little difficult to think the VGC is overtracking the PS3... if it was in one region then it is undertracking in another.

Sony shipped 70 million units in 4th November... we have 67.8m sold for 3rd November... 2.2 million on shelves... I can't see overtracking here.

Yea, I hihgly doubt we're overtracking.  Overall, VGC is probably either spot on or slightly undertracked.

To be fair, those territories outside of Europe and Australia probably account for few sales, and I'm not even sure they are being counted here at all. Sony would usually use gfk, I doubt they have estimates of know how much PS3 has sold to consumers in Pakistan.

They probably looked at gfk, chart-track and whatever other sources, saw that PS3 sales are over 30m in the territories they cover, and released this.

Anyway, congrats fir the milestone.

If you look earlier in the thread I say what countries GFK doesn't track... I was basically implying this.

I think Sony just used GFK data and extrapolated to the entire Europe and other PAL territories. Every company does the same thing. The only accurate figure is the shipment figure. Anyway, it is pointless to argue if VGC overtraked or undertracked. The fact is SCEE did a much better job than MS Europe to market and sell PS3.

Congrats to them and this is from hardcore 360 fan.

So we have 28m for Europe alone. Hmmm

Only 2m in all the other PAL territories? Seems low.

France, Russia and former soviet republics have long made PAL compatibility mandatory, but they are considered SECAM territories, IIRC. So, is Sony including them in the number? Sales in PAL regions could actually be equal to the total number of PAL systems sold, but it could also be less than it.

Edit. OK, now I read Sony's PR posted by Ethomaz, it includes all Europe whatever the system, plus the other PAL countries, so including in Europe at least France and European former soviet republics, not sure if Russia too, but it's actually a sell through estimate, not the usual shipped numbers given by Sony. Curious, but it explains things.
