Forums - Gaming - Japan ranks their favorite male characters from Final Fantasy

Sorry but there isn't nearly enough character development for anybody in FFVI to be called intricate. Also, Kefka was essentially a JRPG Joker, a villian who happens to be my favorite.

@bold. I don't care.

The FFVI characters were less loveable to me, but they were much more intricate. You should read Runa's description of Celes' suicide. I don't remember that kind of in your face reality in earlier FF games. Yes, Tellah sacrificed himself, but he didn't commit suicide (as an example).

Why the hell is Noctis on this list >.> his game isn't out yet!

No Basch? What is this madness!

I thought this.

...but it is Japan, if the character looks like a man he has already shunned 80% of the audience.

Barret suffered from it as well. He's not in the list and he is a FF VII character. Unless losing an arm exclude people from being a man...

Celes' suicide? Did he post it in this thread? I cant find it if it is.

Actually, I think my memory of it is a little overblown :) But here are the posts about this:

Again, nothing intricate about the characters in Final Fantasy. The world is destroyed, Cid dies and Celes attempts suicide to show us the hopelessness of the situation. The character has a tiny amount of depth and development but it's hardly intricate. We're talking about JRPGs here, not Dostoyevsky.

To be honest I think the worlds of Final Fantasy VI had much more of an intricate, unwritten story than final fantasy IV, (just to have something to compare to).

They are more intricate, but there is so much more unwritten as well. Examples are Terra, Shadow, Setzer. It has been a long time since I last played, but these characters have so much pent up backstory when they tell their stories or when their stories are told. And each character is so very different from another. They also seem more rooted in our reality than those in FFIV for instance.

I understand what you're saying but being more intricate than the characters of FFIV doesn't make them intricate. That would be like saying that because Luigi is more developed than Mario that he is a well developed character. It's simply that there are no intricate characters present in any Final Fantasy.

Okay. What's going on here? I totally spanked it to some of the women on that list. WTF?

@Bouzane. Oh.

Well, I thought we were talking related to Final Fantasy since it's a FF thread. But ok.

People complaining about Cloud as a character; understandable but they need to see the bigger picture.
The story revolved around cloud and although as a character he wasn't that interesting, the story itself was everything and more. That's what makes Cloud the popular character that he has become. I think ;p
