The FFVI characters were less loveable to me, but they were much more intricate. You should read Runa's description of Celes' suicide. I don't remember that kind of in your face reality in earlier FF games. Yes, Tellah sacrificed himself, but he didn't commit suicide (as an example).


Again, nothing intricate about the characters in Final Fantasy. The world is destroyed, Cid dies and Celes attempts suicide to show us the hopelessness of the situation. The character has a tiny amount of depth and development but it's hardly intricate. We're talking about JRPGs here, not Dostoyevsky.
