Forums - Sales - The Nintendo DS really IS the highest selling console of all time

Think about when Microsoft announced 70M X360s sold, VGChartz was way off. Why would anyone assume that they're not off on this one? Their tracking just isn't spot on for any console.

Shipped. Microsoft announced 70million shipped.

They may track PS2, but not accurately. They're probably off my a couple million.

The fact that we don't get weekly PS2 data is proof of that.

The PS2's sales nowadays are so small that they aren't worth tracking. 100 units a week?

PS2 sells 1k per week in Japan alone......

Cool, I had no idea people were still buying it. It would still be pointless for VGChartz to track it though.

NEWSFLASH: The PS2 sold more than 180k units worldwide last week!*

It doesn't matter, VGChartz simply is not capable of getting exact numbers.  If you can prove that VGChartz was spot on for the number of X360 consoles sold at that point, then I'll rest my case.  Regardless, there is nothing official about the data on this website in any form.  It's all estimates.

Has anyone gone out and searched for 3rd party confirmation that the PS2 is still selling what is shown in Sony's financial report from last year 2012?

Looking through this thread and others on the same topic, I see the same few people questioning the creditable of this website. Please provide a little more evidence beyond your now bias and Sony's potentially slanted numbers.

The evidence is in Sony's financial reports for each quarter.  They combine PS3 and PS2 numbers now, which means some of those numbers are for the PS2.

What bothers me is that the few who are discrediting VGChartz are the very same ones who use this sites numbers on a daily bases for their arguments.

So you have never been here for adjustments?  Or is your memory selective?  Sure, you can say the PS2 has been outshipped by the DS, but to do so you would have to admit that the PS3 has already tied or maybe passed the 360, going by the PS3 + PS2 shipment data.  So, what shall it be?

Yeah I looked through them last week, I'm looking for an website or some other source of information that isn't Sony or Vga chartz because both sides of argument like to question crediabity of said sources.

TrunksWD (the guy who writes all the sales articles) has said that VGChartz DO still track the PS2.

So last week when people were saying "vgchartz haven't tracked the PS2 for years, it's actual sales are much higher than they are now according to vgchartz", they were WRONG. Vgchartz DOES track the PS2 and therefore the DS really IS the highest selling console of all time.

Trunk is wrong...

You can see in this chartz that VGchartz stopped to track PS2 in November, 2011 (the last sales in this site).

And you can see with your own eyes here: http://www.vgchartz.com/tools/hw_yoy.php?reg=Global&start_year=2009&end_year=2012&console=PS2

Edit - I found more intersting evidences...

http://www.vgchartz.com/tools/hw_yoy.php?reg=Japan&start_year=2009&end_year=2012&console=PS2

The VGChartz just tracked Japan sales until Nov, 2011... no other sales is showed to PS2.
