wtf's the point in comparing handhelds to non-handhelds? I don't think anyone compares mobile phones to non-mobile phones...It's nothing more then fanboy flamebait at its worst.

It's a problem because we KNOW for a fact that its not true. Unless, of course, you want to believe that the PS2 has had 0 sales in the span of over a year, which now includes 2 holidays. And believe Sony just keeps shipping PS2s for no reason or that the PS3 is massively undertracked here. Some Nintendo fans, however, wish to stay blind and believe the impossible, and push a lie, because it looks good for their company. Trust me, if it happens, I'll be one of the first to congratulate Nintendo. Til then, cut the BS. That includes you, VGC.

You may not get that, but I honestly don't get how you and others can just ignore these questions and margianalize the asker instead of actually adressing it. |
I'm not denying this questions (that's why I said if it's true or not), but if what Man-Bear-Pig said is true then there's one possibility that the DS might have outsold the PS2 (again we don't know if it's true or not). But my question is what's the problem if is true or might become true some time in the future? The PS2 is an amazing system and in the end it doesn't matter if the DS sold more units. The people I'm referring to (which I won't give any names obviously) seemed to be concerned about not being the number 1 anymore, which again I really don't see the issue about that.

But what happens if it does become true in the future? What's the problem about that? Some people (not on this site specifically) are going nuts about this and I don't see the problem. Like I said before the PS2 is an amazing system and it shouldn't matter to fans if the DS overtakes it.

the most damaging thing I have seen is the article that was allowed to be Posted. when you are the only website saying it, nothing from Nintendo. Your reputation as a site takes a major hit.

Its not about being number 1. The majority of us thought, and accepted, that the DS would pass the PS2 long ago. Its a record breaking piece of hardware and did wonders Worldwide. It certainly deserves to be number 1 along with PS2.
What its really about is VGChartz pushing out the estimated numbers as fact. Straight up saying the DS has passed the PS2 right now, when the PS2 numbers make no sense at all.
This isnt the first time that VGChartz have said the DS has outsold the PS2. It happened again in 2010, when the PS2 was undertracked by over 9 Million(!) units.

That sums it up great. It's one thing for a misinformed poster to put up a thread on the topic. It's a completely different one when a site that wants to be taken seriously as a tracking site puts these numbers up as fact. According to VGC, there are ~4.4M PS2 consoles on shelves. Impossible. When a console starts to sell as slow as the PS2 and DS, shipment numbers will always only be 500K to MAYBE 1M ahead of sold numbers. So, the PS2 has most likely sold ~156M-156.5M units.
What bothers me is that the few who are discrediting VGChartz are the very same ones who use this sites numbers on a daily bases for their arguments.
