I'm not denying this questions (that's why I said if it's true or not), but if what Man-Bear-Pig said is true then there's one possibility that the DS might have outsold the PS2 (again we don't know if it's true or not). But my question is what's the problem if is true or might become true some time in the future? The PS2 is an amazing system and in the end it doesn't matter if the DS sold more units. The people I'm referring to (which I won't give any names obviously) seemed to be concerned about not being the number 1 anymore, which again I really don't see the issue about that.

Its not about being number 1. The majority of us thought, and accepted, that the DS would pass the PS2 long ago. Its a record breaking piece of hardware and did wonders Worldwide. It certainly deserves to be number 1 along with PS2.

What its really about is VGChartz pushing out the estimated numbers as fact. Straight up saying the DS has passed the PS2 right now, when the PS2 numbers make no sense at all.

This isnt the first time that VGChartz have said the DS has outsold the PS2. It happened again in 2010, when the PS2 was undertracked by over 9 Million(!) units.

That sums it up great.  It's one thing for a misinformed poster to put up a thread on the topic.  It's a completely different one when a site that wants to be taken seriously as a tracking site puts these numbers up as fact.  According to VGC, there are ~4.4M PS2 consoles on shelves.  Impossible.  When a console starts to sell as slow as the PS2 and DS, shipment numbers will always only be 500K to MAYBE 1M ahead of sold numbers.  So, the PS2 has most likely sold ~156M-156.5M units.
