Forums - Nintendo - What other Games could nintendo pull a Bayonetta 2 on?

I agree with the point being made that Nintendo doesn't need to seek out 3rd party IPs that sell like 5 million copies with each game release because they already have stable full of their own 1st and 2nd IPs that sell 5 million or more copies.
What they need to do seek out or fund 3rd party games to fill out the library, sales being a secondary consideration. Bayonetta 2 is a good start, and it did have decent sales despite some people's claim to the contrary. What Nintendo could do is fund some of the games I'm sure Sega would want to do if they had the money atm, this is better in my opinion that outright buying Sega as this would keep them as a 3rd party company and not a Nintendo owned 2nd party company.

How about striking a deal with Blizzard and getting World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2 trilogy (or next Warcraft RTS) on the console as an exclusive?  Maybe do something new.  Push to make the Wii U THE console of choice for RTS would be good.  Pretty much, don't go just titles, but lock down genres.

that's gold!

how about sega in general

If anyone was going to buy Sega it would be Microsoft. They have worked very closely together on several occasians and it would give MS a much needed local identity to Japanese gamers.

Nintendo has no need for Sega's back cataloge of franchises.

Nintendo and SEGA have far more synergies. Mario and Sonic game, game gear games on the virtual console for example, Sonic always performs the best on nintendo consoles and both companies are japanese (cultural issues and social acceptance). Nintendo has full need of SEGA now. Its the best way to atract the core gamer without affecting the family friendly Nintendo brand.

Microsoft can perfectly buy SEGA, but that would end in disaster. Theres no way the Japanese studios and the US microsoft ones would work well. All this would end up doing is locking SEGA's IP's so no one else can use cause we know microsoft wouldnt bother to get anything else out except Sonic wich is the million seller.

Nintendo doesn't need Sega franchises, but MS could. Nintendo does fine in Japan, they don't need more Japanese appeal. MS could use a Japan footing.

BTW, your opinion of MS is far too cynical.

Umm.. is it? Maybe we can take a look at what happened to RARE? It worked at first but then it collapsed.

What happened to RARE was not Microsoft's intention. They bought RARE for the talent and IPS. But all the talent left and the IPs failed at retail. MS did not happen to RARE. RARE happened to RARE and MS did the best with what it had left. If MS bought SEGA they would most likely consolidate it some to save soem costs but they would probably let Sega run itself as a Japanese base for MS gaming. They would probably slap the SEGA logo on every Xbox product in Japan to make the locals finaly take notice of the Xbox brand. It still boggles the mind that Japanese gamers still refuse to jump on the Halo band wagon of awsomeness.

They left because microsoft didnt let them work on the games they wanted to make and shoehorned them into making the Avatar things. What talent wants to spend his years working on avatar or kinect games?

As for the japanese, they are nationalists and they are not fans of shooters, wich is something i understand cause im not one either.

I'm sorry, but you don't know what your talking about. RARE was falling apart before MS bought them. Most of the talent was walking out the door before Nintendo considered selling their shares. MS picket up what Nintendo didn't want and RARE was already a shell of it's former self. But they still made Kameo which is very good, The Conker remake which is better than the first, Perfect Dark Zero which is decent and the new IP Viva Pineta which is very solid and well loved in it's genre. The problem is that RARE's style had fallen out of fashion and the games didn't sell. MS did the best with what it had and at least the studio is producing quality products even if they aren't blockbuster AAA games. Don't count them out, rumor is that they are working on a next gen title. It could be Killer Instinct, something new, or a Kinect 2 game. We don't know, but word it that it's coming.

As for the Japanese. They should learn to love Halo. It transcends shooters like COD. It's more than just a kill fest. But that's not all they ignored on the Xbox 360. For the entire year that the PS3 left the Xbox 360 alone the Japanese skipped all the great RPG that MS worked so hard to bring them. Even after the PS3 came out MS made sure plenty of Japanese games were available on Xbox. The best RPGs were often exclusive on the Xbox 360 or timed exclusive. But instead of enjoying all the great stuff that they claim to love, they ignored the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 is far more than a shooter box. Yes it has the best shooters, but it also has killer games in every genre. Some of the very best JRPGs are still only available on the Xbox 360. To ignore it is to deny oneself enjoyment.

Well, i have read articles of RARE employees leaving because of the Avatar thing. You might be right, but i never read into that so i cant say you're right or wrong.

As for the japanese, different cultures are very different. I dont know if you ever travelled abroad or lived in other countries, but every country is very different and different things have different levels of importance. While it sounds dumb to you, and to me even though i understand, there are cultural reasons for the japanese to act that way as its most beneficial to their economy and might have foundation on past grudges aswell (WW2, the US did drop nukes on them). Its perfectly natural that they developed a more protectionist culture to protect their identity.

Things never are as simple as they seem. If you were born a Japanese you would probably reject the 360 aswell. Its not something that can be changed from night to day, it takes decades, maybe centuries to change a cultural mindset. There are some crazy exceptions sometimes like apple though. Thats when the marketing manages to hit a critical nerve (portable gadgets are a japanese thing).

On the culture part you're right on the ball, I live in the UK and it is heavily marketed to give home grown/made products a go, it's nothing to do with not liking anything foreign as the UK is one of the most diverse in cultures in the world it's a sense of pride and being self sufficient it may sound strange and hard to fathom but that's something, as the culture here goes anyone or anything that helps further us deserves support. I imagine the Japanese may have a similar thing in their culture and some people may be misinterpreting it.

On Rare, the studio actually had some issues before hand, this also applies to the people earlier who were talking about Nintendo teaming up for a first person shooter but Retro only exist because after Goldeneye something bagen going wrong at Rare. Nintendo sensing this formed Retro in a business deal back in the late 90s and many people behind the N64 Turok games jumped over to Retro, this is why Metroid Prime had a very Turok style feel to it (for those earlier they already have a team capable of good shooters). You are right that further problems came up during the MS era of Rare but I can't blame MS' frustration at that point tbh.

I was thinking SoulCalibur VI too :) That would make sense for Nintendo -- get a good fighting franchise and maybe insert a Nintendo character, a la SoulCalibur II.

like with link in it? ;)

Well, if Nintendo can make it an exclusive (great relationship with Namco-Bandai because of Super Smash) may be it can add more than just Link, Ganondorf?, Sheik?, Marth?, Shulk?, Dunban? Zael?, any more?

THAT would sell gangbusters! ;D

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Soul Calibur VI w/Link + Gannondorf would make a lot of sense, especially if it could be whipped up quickly for summer/fall 2013.

Smash Brothers is probably still a ways off.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Nintendo scooped up the following:

Soul Calibur VI

Bayonetta 2

Darksiders 3

Ninja Gaiden IV - With Itagaki overseeing.

Devil's Third

Rayman (franchise)

Mistwalker RPG(s)

If they could get a hold on all of those they wouldn't need 3rd party support anymore ^^
