Shenmue 3

how about sega in general

If anyone was going to buy Sega it would be Microsoft. They have worked very closely together on several occasians and it would give MS a much needed local identity to Japanese gamers.

Nintendo has no need for Sega's back cataloge of franchises.

Nintendo and SEGA have far more synergies. Mario and Sonic game, game gear games on the virtual console for example, Sonic always performs the best on nintendo consoles and both companies are japanese (cultural issues and social acceptance). Nintendo has full need of SEGA now. Its the best way to atract the core gamer without affecting the family friendly Nintendo brand.

Microsoft can perfectly buy SEGA, but that would end in disaster. Theres no way the Japanese studios and the US microsoft ones would work well. All this would end up doing is locking SEGA's IP's so no one else can use cause we know microsoft wouldnt bother to get anything else out except Sonic wich is the million seller.

Nintendo doesn't need Sega franchises, but MS could. Nintendo does fine in Japan, they don't need more Japanese appeal. MS could use a Japan footing.

BTW, your opinion of MS is far too cynical.

Umm.. is it? Maybe we can take a look at what happened to RARE? It worked at first but then it collapsed.

What happened to RARE was not Microsoft's intention. They bought RARE for the talent and IPS. But all the talent left and the IPs failed at retail. MS did not happen to RARE. RARE happened to RARE and MS did the best with what it had left. If MS bought SEGA they would most likely consolidate it some to save soem costs but they would probably let Sega run itself as a Japanese base for MS gaming. They would probably slap the SEGA logo on every Xbox product in Japan to make the locals finaly take notice of the Xbox brand. It still boggles the mind that Japanese gamers still refuse to jump on the Halo band wagon of awsomeness.

They left because microsoft didnt let them work on the games they wanted to make and shoehorned them into making the Avatar things. What talent wants to spend his years working on avatar or kinect games?

As for the japanese, they are nationalists and they are not fans of shooters, wich is something i understand cause im not one either.

I'm sorry, but you don't know what your talking about. RARE was falling apart before MS bought them. Most of the talent was walking out the door before Nintendo considered selling their shares. MS picket up what Nintendo didn't want and RARE was already a shell of it's former self. But they still made Kameo which is very good, The Conker remake which is better than the first, Perfect Dark Zero which is decent and the new IP Viva Pineta which is very solid and well loved in it's genre. The problem is that RARE's style had fallen out of fashion and the games didn't sell. MS did the best with what it had and at least the studio is producing quality products even if they aren't blockbuster AAA games. Don't count them out, rumor is that they are working on a next gen title. It could be Killer Instinct, something new, or a Kinect 2 game. We don't know, but word it that it's coming.

As for the Japanese. They should learn to love Halo. It transcends shooters like COD. It's more than just a kill fest. But that's not all they ignored on the Xbox 360. For the entire year that the PS3 left the Xbox 360 alone the Japanese skipped all the great RPG that MS worked so hard to bring them. Even after the PS3 came out MS made sure plenty of Japanese games were available on Xbox. The best RPGs were often exclusive on the Xbox 360 or timed exclusive. But instead of enjoying all the great stuff that they claim to love, they ignored the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 is far more than a shooter box. Yes it has the best shooters, but it also has killer games in every genre. Some of the very best JRPGs are still only available on the Xbox 360. To ignore it is to deny oneself enjoyment.
