I would argue that the Playstation still has very strong brand awareness but has really seen declining brandy loyalty because of the PSP, PS3 and PS-Vita ...

I actually think Microsoft did an awesome job with the Xbox brand but I still can see few people using the "Playstation" term sometime just to describe a generic home console. Something very similar to people using the word "iPad" when they are talking about any tablet. But I also think that Microsoft is way better than Sony to market the Xbox brand and games.
Their US prediction might come true but 60/40 globally won't happen with MS having basically only the UK as a major market in Europe and virtually no sales at all in Japan. I somehow think that the 6.7 billion people living outside of North America might tip the numbers towards a more even score.
Overall, no one will crush the other in the 8th gen and it will be the first generation in history without growth in home console sales (it will shrink somewhat), is my prediction.
Until specs and features are released, these charts are just going off rumors. Id believe google after both devices are unveiled, not before...

You have to know what people typically type when searching. Are they typing PS3, PS4, playstation 3, playstation 4? xbox, xbox 360, etc?
These results doesn't hold that much ground, because you get different results depending on that factor.
