Nexus 7, better hardware all round for the same price as the Kindle. It has 32gb of memory, the latest Android software which is 4.2 currently. Loads of games, music, apps etc on google play. I don't think you could much better value out of £199 for a tablet anywhere else. It's definitely worth it over anything else, even iPad mini (too expensive!)

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Between those two I would have to pick Nexus 7, but I am going to buy the Microsoft Surface. This device looks pretty sweet!

You could get an iPad mini for an extra $80

Are the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD only $200? I thought they were $250. My bad

Went with the Nexus 7 32GB for $250. Was surprisingly hard to find. She's 11 years old and isn't even expecting it but I'm sure she'll love it. I'm familiar with Google/Android since that's the type of phone I have so I'm pretty confident that we'll pick up the interface almost instantly. I'm gonna fill this sucker full of music and movies until it explodes. I was a bit concerned that it would be a bitch to add content to like the Zune or the iPod (not really difficult, but not nearly as easy as my Android phone) if I went with Amazon. Looking at reviews and the results of the poll, I think we made the right choice.

It is really good product. A couple apple guys I know like to hate on it, but they can pay the apple tax. I just want quality. Neogaf has a great thread on all the stuff you can do with it. I will send you a link later.

Thanks, man.  I'll definitely want to take a look at that!

Just wondering here but why get a tablet for an 11 year old? Guessing she had a phone when she was 5. Personally I think it is ridiculous getting that sort of stuff for kids so young but to each their own I suppose. Or is it really a present for yourself that you had to say was for the child?

I understand the movie point of view but couldn't you have just got a stand alone hard drive that you hook up to the tv?

Nah.  She doesn't have or even want a phone.  She got a cheap laptop last year, though (with firewalls in place by yours truly!) and she spends a fair amount of monitored time on it.  She watches a lot of youtube, plays flash games, etc.  The laptop never leaves the house and she doesn't have an MP3 player so I've been putting movies and music on her PSP for the last couple of years.  With the Nexus 7, she can have all of the benefits of a laptop at home and when we're on the road (which is quite a bit), she'll have her movies and music to keep her entertained.  Plus, it will keep her from killing my phone playing Angry Birds.  She likes recording herself singing and making slide shows on the 3DS, too.  Figure she'll find some cool stuff to keep her busy with the tablet, too.  Personally, I'm just happy with a phone when I'm on the go and a PC when I'm home.
