Forums - Gaming - The old adage that Xbox 360 Exclusives Sell So Much Better than Playstation 3 Exclusives is a Myth!

I'm just saying your guys arguments are completely different.  He is talking about profit and the entire gen and you seem to be focusing on games shipped.  We dont know how much Forza has shipped either?  We only know sold. Just like we dont know how much each game has earned in profits.  We also dont know how much DLC has sold etc.  These arguments could go on all day because neither one of you all can prove what you are saying.  That is why I said he isn't entirely wrong because as an IP Forza has sold about as much as GT this gen.  That doesn't diminish how well GT has done, I mean Im sure anybody can see that GT has the bigger brand name.  But it does show that Forza has held its own ground and has become a very popular series.

We really need to stop talking about bundles on this site.

EDIT: And no need on apologize, honest mistake :)  But 1.2m is believable.  It may be undertracked by 200-400K though, but that isnt too bad.  Im sure a lot of games on this site is undertracked by a little bit.

I don't like to compare these two franchises... I don't do that here but I have to anwser when somebody do that kind of comparison... in fact I don't know how much Forza sold and I don't care but I have all data you need for GT5.

For DLC the last official data is over 1 million at Nov 20th, 2011... the first DLC was release in Oct 25, 2011... so just one month of sales.

You still havent addressed that me and Jaywood agree that 1.2 million on store shelves is actually normal....and means 200k - 500k tops is undertracked.

So please stop saying its not accurate.....the numbers are mostly spot on with GT5. Im frankly surprised you actually managed to convince everybody that the game is 1 million + undertracked on this site.

When did this become about profits and revenue? I thought this thread was about how much an exclusive can sell on the consoles?

Forza can sell about 5 million.

While Gran Turismo can sell about 10 million.

Case closed.

That can easily refer to a exclusive IP sales. We had this discussion before. You just dont seem to believe in IP sales per generation. Both arguments have merit.

It's nor normal. Software sales are typically very, very close to shipped sales. Find me one individual game where the shipped-sold discrepancy is greater than 1 million units.

It's not normal for software... 1.2 million diff means at least 500k undertracked (because the end of the year period).

Big flagship releases (both 3rd and 1st party) are the exception to the rule I find. RE6 being a recent example of shipped far exceeding sold.

So we both agree that 500k is a reasonable number. Now let me say that Forza bundles are undertracked as well as I feel that ratios of total 360s sold is disproportionate to the number of Fora 4 copies sold every week.  I have to direct proof but my claims have just as much validity as yours as you can;t pinpoint the exact number of GT5 copies undertracked either.

Point...just go by the vgchartz numbers, for better or for worse.

No, they are not. Take Halo for example. When it was announced that the series sold 50 million, we had sales for the series (not including DLC, etc.) just under 50 million. There was a very small discrepancy. And that's for the entire series. Individual discrepancies would have been even lower.

You are correct though in that newer games tend to have large discrepancies. But not for two-year old games.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/04/resident-evil-6-ships-over-4-5-million-copies-worldwide/

Dated October 4, 2012.

Resident Evil 6 PS3 - 2,141,774
Resident Evil 6 360 - 1,365,775

Total (as of Dec 1) - 3 507 549

Difference of 992 451. And this is sales of December vs shipped in October.

Check and mate Ethomaz and Jay520. Big name flagship games are the exception to the rule. GT5 numbers are mostly spot on.

EDIT: In the case of GT5, a two year old game, Sony could have easily put GT5 bundles and copies into the market before their September announcement. Either way, its certainly possible but point being, its just better to follow vgchartz numbers.

RE6 has been a huge flop too.

You can't prove what you are saying.  It could be undertracked by a couple 100k or it may not, we don't know and nobody can prove anyhting.

Really guys cool it with the GT vs Forza thing now

As I said earlier. Publishers usually ship a LOT of games at release.

Remember when Uncharted 3 shipped 3.8 million units day 1. Does that mean Uncharted 3 got close to 3.8 million units its first day, or week? Hell no. Uncharted 3 didn't sell 3.8 million until March of this year, four months after release.

The earlier the release, the bigger the discrepancy. After a few months after release, shipped numbers are much more close to sales. And after two years, the discrepancy should be incredibily tiny. See Halo sales-shipped numbers before Halo 4.
