It's an accessory slot. Not sure if anything is using it yet but that's what it's for.

I've been keeping my pet ant in there.



if you look at the manual it says "accessory slot". no one knows what that means though. assuming sony didn't put it on there without any reason as to why ... i expect us to find out with the announcement of the ps4. my best bet is using the vita as a "gamepad" with the ps4. let's them compete with nintendo if they have to while not having to commit to putting a screen on every ps4 controller if wiiU doesn't take off.



Odds are it is something for the PS4 or maybe it is for video output on a new line of tvs no one knows yet because it is a custom designed slot
