I has nothing to do with 3rd parties not liking Nintendo nor does it have anything to do Install base. The problem is the audience Nintendo attract to their systems does not seem to want to buy 3rd party games like on other consoles audiences.

Sony is bankrupt. Nintendo won't go bankrupt manufacturing Wii U's.

So theres that.

Yeah, how about this on-topic post. Lol, you seriously had nothing better to say?

OT: I wouldn't worry about the VGAs that much personally. Hopefully Nintendo will work some more with 3rd parties, but don't expect them to get most of the games like PS4/720 will.

Who's to say that the Wii U won't be the lead console much like the PS2? Nintendo haters or jumping the gun thinking the next gen will be like the current one.

So you think that they are not competing in sales or what?

To an extent of course its competing, but I would very confidently bet that a large portion of the 400k or so Wii U's that have been sold, have been bought by people who've already invested in current gen systems. A new 360 bundle (regardless of how cheap it is), does not compete for the dolloars of a individual who already owns a Xbox 360. When the Xbox360 launched, for the most part it was not competing with the ps2 for sales. Most people that own a 360 in North America today probably also owned ps2. Its part of the logic of how console cycles work, hardware reach satuation levels and new hardware is released for those users to now adopt. Thats one of the major concerns people have raised with the Wii U, Nintendo hasn't effectively positioned it as a successor to ps3/360, nor have they really pushed it down its own lane like the wii.

But for new markets (kids/uniformed casual gamers maybe), then yes it is a competing product and the 360+kinect maybe more enticing then wii U+ Wii U pad.

I'd argue that not many PS3/360 owners have bought Wii U. At the moment, all that Wii U offers for those people are Nintendo games. If someone buys a console for nintendo games, he already owns a wii. So, the people who have already invested in current gen systems are most likely to be wii owners. For a lot of wii owners, PS360 were never competing with wii. But when it comes to non-nintendo fan, PS360 offer a lot compared to what Wii U offers at the moment. Especially when those people count bang for the buck.

I agree that not many PS3/360 owners have a bought Wii U (its only been out for a week lol), buts that makes a different point from what I'm trying to say. The question I'm asking is how many Wii U owners have a Ps3/360. I'd say a lot, probably over 80%.  I'm saying that when they made that purchase, the console they already had at home was in no way acting as a competing product; this is the audience that will be responsible for the systems success. Otherwise all they have is late adopters (the minority) to fight for and kids. Naturally because of the size of HD console market, Nintendo aim should to win over the current ps3/360 market ( a fair portion of whom probably also own wii's). It merely speculation in regards to the demographics, so I won't drag this out or present my opinion as fact.

That 80% figure is quite high, may I ask what you base this on?

In my opinion, most of Wii U's are sold to loyal nintendo fans. The people who will be first on line to get the console. After those initial purchases, it is either PS360 owners or new gamers buying their console. I think that Wii U offers very little to the people who already own a ps3/360 so they aren't that likely to buy Wii U. For a new gamer, PS3 / 360 offer a lot more than Wii U. A huge library of games. I call that competing.

The 80% is  based of

  • -1. For someone to be a diehard Nintendo fan, they must be a keen on gaming. For keen gamers, I'd find it hard to imagine that there are a lot who wouldn't have already picked up a  ps3/360 as the wii library is very weak outside of 1st party title (IMO-speaking as a wii owner). Regardless of the strength of the wii library in isolation there are a ton of hyped game which you can't get on that system and I imagine a keen gamer would want to play some them. Obviously everyones taste id different and I'm their are people who would rather play no more heroes (hate that game) over devil may cry.
  • 2-Pretty much everyone I know who has the wii U are, also owns one of the seperate consoles (although, this would make a good questionaire).
I completely agree with the Bold and it goes back to my initial comment where I said" For the system to be a success, I think it has to attract a fair portion of the 140m" (360/ps3 owners). I've already agreed that the wii U is in competition in context of the late adopters, but thats a battle which new consoles do not actively fight and rarely can win (the wii is an exception). So in regards to what it is trying to achieve, it is not in competition (competition is context based). Does that make sense? You are right in what you say, my inteperation of competition is just different (specific to target demographics and goals).

Nintendo obviously doesn't care about the VGA's, but Sony does. So, where were the Vita games? Oh that's right, Vita has none. And since that's the status quo we don't even need to mention it anymore, it's just business as usual.

Did you just acknowledge that WiiU and Vita were in a comparable situation?

Concering the VGA's, yes. This thread just makes it look like the Wii U is in a darker place than the Vita.

What the hell does Vita have to do with anything? He didnt even mention Vita once in the thread, stop hating

As much as you don't like it, the PSV situation is relevant to this thread. The OP only painted a partial picture of the VGA's and I am here to fill out the blank spots. Stop denying.

Relevant how? THe OP didnt mention it at all, how about you not derail thread with your usual nonsense

doesnt nintendo never nave a presence at the vgas

Thats the problem. An impartial OP wouldn't have done this. But I guess you can't see this, as you aren't impartial either. So I forgive you.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.
