Maybe, but a lot of the those port people like me haven't played and are looking forward to buying over the coming months. For example, Ninja Gaiden 3, which with all the improvements and DLC, is clearly the better version. I also want to play Darksiders 3. So year they go ports, but people like me are still buying them. Nintendo will bring the goods for Christmas 2013, believe it |
Yet so far a lot of the ports (BLOPS II, ME3, Batman: AA) all perform signifcantly worse then the xbox. Not really a strong selling point of a brand new console. Here in the UK the "momentum" for the Wii U seems to be moving at a glacial pace.
"and to] maintain the balance [between core and casual] throughout the quarter and onwards"
Really Nintendo? Well the core titles don't really seem to be selling....

ZombiU is the 2nd best sellign title behind Mario. (considering NL is packed in over 1/2 of the time) and I think COD and AC3 are right behind them.

the talk shows, the news casts, and to a certain extent the retail weekly ads were free advertising because the wii was a product people wanted to talk about. nothing much nintendo can do about that if the masses don't view the wiiU as worth mentioning.

You really think Nintendo has no push in getting it on media like talk shows? All they need to do is send free units to the people in these shows and even do in person visits. Reggie was on a late night show just before launch as an example. They don't show products just because... there is money or free shit exchanging behind the scenes.
Retail ads are part of the ad space for promotions that are agreed too. Sometimes solely from the retailer but much of the time based on manufacturer involvement.

Launch time woes. PS3 has the same problem agains the XBox360 when it launched (and far beyond). Wii U will come into its own eventually. Then these types of threads will be fun to look back at.
The PS3 and 360 had these problems. The Next Box and PS4 will too. The tables will turn once again.

I give up. I don't even fucking know what "core" means now. The only consistent definition seems to be "whatever defines the games that don't sell as well on Nintendo systems," but that would just be silly.

nintendo can push with the full weight the the marketing resources they have available to them. but marketing resources are finite.
the difference is the wii, much like apple's products in general, was a pull. "word of mouth" is what i believe people like to call it here. i 100% guarantee that the 20 minute apple ad story i saw on rock center last night didn't cost apple a thing. wii had that too. everyone was talking. nintendo didn't have to do a thing.
Nintendo doesn't need to be strong out of the gate because the first 5M will sell without any strong Nintendo games. They need to convince the next 55M people to buy the Wii U but there's no point in front loading a console like that when they couldn't keep up with supply.
Tease.
