Forums - Nintendo - Wii-U Overscan Problem

Damnit Nintendo, why do you make it so hard for me to love your new console? So what's the problem? Well, apparantly, Nintendo forgot about overscan, despite non of their previous consoles NOR any console from other manufacturers having this problem. The result? The screen is cropped, with symbols falling through the edge of the screen. For a very clear explanation of this issue click here.

The launch issues of the Wii-U really bum me out. It seems Nintendo can never get anything right from the start. I'll be getting a new TV soon so I hope that will fix it, but it's ultimately not a TV problem but a Wii-U problem.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this, am I?

Its a TV problem. Should of bought a TV that presented the image in its true form in the first place. My TV has a full pixel option and it works perfectly.

Other consoles were made for SD/HD... WiiU was made for HD only.

(btw I'm only 1/2 serious... wiiu should have a display setting for overall console like it does for various apps)

Technically, yes, it's a TV problem. All TV's in the history of mankind have had overscan. But not one device ever has forgot to correct for it. The Wii-U has no option whatsoever to correct for overscan. If your TV doesn't have any options like full pixel (and most don't!) then you'll have a cropped image on your Wii-U until you buy a new TV.

I'd definitely say Nintendo dropped the ball on this one.

I have heard this problem before, but the cases were because the user had an old SD TV. Haven't heard this problem with a HD TV.

Most people with a 720p TV will have this problem. Apparantly, most 1080p TVs have an option to correct for this. I'm waiting for my 1080p TV to arrive so I hope I'll be able to fix it, but it shouldn't even be a problem in the first place.

Annoying, separating Wii from U with a dash is annoying.

I have a 1080p and I have never seen this happen when i play.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Ys. I don't get it why some games and apps have options for that, but that is no systemwide setting.
