There is a lot more competition these days for sales as theres a still viable $99 Wii and Microsoft is making strides in developing markets like for instance Brazil where their console is selling better than the PS3 due to them building a factory down there.

$99 Wii in Canada

and Wii is more than likely going to be dropped next/later this year.. considering nintendo is releasing no ip for the system, and is barely being shipped as it is..

PS3 is still fairly expensive at entry price with the system being $269, but once sony cut the system to $199 or less.. it'll continue to sell well as long as there isn't a nexgen console out from microsoft or sony

anyone predicting that the ps3 will sell over 100 mill is high off their ass lol

Well, if we end up with a worldwide scenario like the japanese PSP-Vita one it's possible. With Sony one never knows, and why buy a PS4 when the PS3 will get several big exclusives this year if the PS4 ends up not having backwards compatibility?

Well you've got to factor in the fact the poorer people can't afford the games anyway so I would pick the pirateable 360 over the PS3 long term in many of the smaller markets. The base price of the 360 has been the same for 4 years now so surely they have to move it down before the Nextbox was released and they have a system which has a unified cpu/gpu which ought to be cheaper to manufacture. The next gen will probably launch for a reasonable price @ $399 so I don't think the system will have the legs of the last generation.

Tease.

I dont see it happening as sales will continue to decline and once ps4 comes out sales will drop off exponentially. However, good luck in your prediction.

Well, the way in which the sales decline wouldn't be in the way most of us expect. That's why price cut comes into the picture. The market share for PS3 is still increasing and we don't have a PS4 announced yet and I don't see it coming until Q1 2014 the earliest. There's a high probability for this prediction to become true. It's poised to continue it's current selling pace and eventually take 2nd place by the end of 2013.

OP VGC data updated.

Europe = 400k for the last two weeks... so I'm right here and the PS3 can do better than what I predicted.
US = 400k for the last two weeks... I guess I will miss that by 100k.

3DS sold a million last week. It's poised to do 52 millions for 2013.

Yeap but what that have to do with PS3 predictions?

PS3 has had steady sales but what your predictions dont factor in is the sales drops when PS4 is announced/released.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Price cut will boost sells, as well the fact that the first PS3 gen got a couple of permissions to almost be sold in china (gaming is banned there, therefore no Xbox 360), which would be a huge market. However, China has a "grey market" for these things and if Sony offers a Gaikai subscription for PS3 games, the sales will pretty much depend on countries like Brazil.
