Forums - Sales - Wii U sold 40K units during UK launch (CONFIRMED)

Th fact that you can't see a flaw in that says a lot. A. UK has bought more Nintendo then Sony products last gen so comparing the Wii U to Vita is useless. And B. comparing holiday sales to non holiday sales is a really dumb comparison as well.

Simply put.... excuses

I kid. But reliatically, yes the christmas period has sold more hardware then normal but the fact remains that only 100,000 people here were desperate to get a vita in a space of 10 weeks. There will be new year sales but some of the weeks will be when the buzz is over.

It really doesn't matter how much 3ds, vita or wii u sell here. This is the same place that threw a bad reaction at £55 call of duty games. They will go at a slow and steady rate. What people want to look at is the rest of the world. And it seems to be doing quite well. I still say that this is doing well because this seems to be more to do with stock. I think selling nearly double your expected shipments and almost (if not fully) selling out in just 2 days is a huge achievement.

What nintendo uk will be disappointed in is that software failed to break into the top 10.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

I'm in Berlin currently and I didn't even notice that the WiiU has been released here already. I went to a Media Markt (Alexandersplatz) and they had loads of them (could be a new shipment though). I haven't seen anyone in the WiiU section except 4 kids (5-10 years old) though I saw one guy in the mid 40s that actually bought one at the counter.

Perhaps they got all of Amazon's stock? I checked it earlier and they won't have the Premium model in stock until the 12th.

Wii U is not sold out

GAME: In Stock
Amazon: Basic Pack in stock; Premium back in stock tomorrow
Tesco: In Stock
Sainsbury's: Basic in stock; Premium Sold Out
Shopto: In Stock
Toys R Us: In Stock
Play.com: In Stock
Curry's: In Stock
Argos: In Stock

Yeah, everyone ignored this.

That's because it isn't relevant to Friday and Saturday sales. It's now Monday.

There appears to be some stock online, but less so in actual stores. The local Game has been suggesting people pre-order them as they have a backlog of store-based preorders, but that might just be a way of making a sale.

Not that it matters. We'll see how the push goes from here until the new year. It's a great console by the way. Really enjoying Zombi U. It feels fresh. It's proper hard though. Gotta stop trying to take out the Zombies when theya re in herds because it pretty much inevitable leads to death.

No way. You guys can highlight vita as a comparison now but what did it sell after launch exactly? Considering it hit 100,000 after 10 weeks it can't have been much. Lets wait 10 weeks and see what happens. Only after that will I even consider this being a flop but it is really the rest of the world that matters.

Sorry couldn't resist.

There are no excuses. Basing the success of a console off of a system that it should and will sell more than is extremely silly.

It's easy to sell out when you ship so little.

And if they had more stock it would have sold out anyway. If ps3 had launched at £425 today it would struggle to sell 1,000 let alone 40,000. The uk is a much harder market these days. Unless you have the apple logo people don't go gaga over you here. It isn't specifically nintendo. If things don't improve here the xbox will struggle far more then this because it will be more expensive.

For 48 hours, to completely sell out is a great accomplishment.

what about the ebay factor?

and Im not sure it is sold out goven the quick research i just did.

WOW 299 pounds. Not sure if that is considered expensive or not. But converting it to AUD is $461. I paid $378 AUD  for my premium launch Wii U, which is less than I paid for the Wii at $400.

Is there a soccer/football game out for wii u??? They're the only games uk people get boners over and no console sells well in the uk without one. It's a proven scientific fact!

FIFA 13

Hmm kills that theory then.

Not really as FIFA 2013 has been out on other consoles already. I downloaded the demo myself and the game isn't significantly different than the PS3 version. Apart from a few touch screen things you can do but kind of meh anyway.

if FIFA 2014 was made exclusive on the WiiU then it may shift some units lol.

Seems like most supply issue is with the Premium package.

Anyway why Nintendo created the normal package???

That is the question no one knows the answer to lol. Even die hard NIntendo fans struggle with this concept.

48 hours = 2 days, not 3 big fella.

Question... All releases are in the UK two days? For games they are and for consoles?

Vita's first week of VGChartz data was 4 days. Look up the release date on wikipedia, and then go to that week of VGChartz data.

It's not a hard question to answer... Nintendo was obviously terrified that $350 US would be too expensive for a large part of the market, so they scrambled to cut the price down to $300 by any means necessary and offer it as a separate package.
