I didn't realize that if you align launches PS3 would look so stronger. Bear in mind that it was much more expensive and it had nothing to differentiate itself for the start, it was a year late, yet it still outsold 360 every year but one (that is a guess anyway).
Just think that what would the graph look like if PS3 was competitive day one. It just shows that Xbox 360's success is almost completely due to the Sony's mistakes. Otherwise it would be the PS2 scenario all over again.
Some thoughts:
Looking at the graphs, both consoles peaked last year.
XBOX 360 7th and 8th years are amazing.
I predict a bigger fall for 360 next year than the fall PS3 will suffer.
Next gen comes right in time for both consoles, not so for consumers (I think)
Taking into account these are the 2nd and 3rd place of this generation those are so amazing numbers.
I think PS3 had a very slow start. But so did the 360.
Kinnect was great for 360... Microsoft sure knows what they are doing.
Sony has done well for launching at such a high price and with few games. I agree, the price cuts and the redesigned Slim and and Super Slim is what helped move more PS3s off store shelves. Microsoft redesigned the Xbox 360 and launched Kinect in 2010 and that really helped accelerate Xbox 360 sales. Why do people seem to have more interest in a console when it is repackaged and redesigned but yet the same?
Looks like PS3 sales correlate pretty closely with Sony's exclusive output. In 2009-2011, Sony's exclusive output was relatively great, and hardware sales mirror that. While in 2012, Sony's exclusive output was tragic, and hardware sales seem to mirror that.

I woldnt say gradual, I'd say even. I'd expect less than 8.5m for PS3 next year, but you expect it to do better than the 360, so over 10.5m? interesting. Look again. |
Perhaps you should point out that you've changed the graph and data since I replied?

Expecting pricecuts for both next Year.
Could both be flat, depending on next gen consoles? Give or take a Million.

The PS3 outsold the 360 every year life except the 2011, the best 360 year due the Kinect efect.
Kinect made all the difference last year for 360.
Striking that both the 360 and PS3 did so well despite pretty big errors from both MS and Sony.

no. it is a natural curve of a machine peaking and now falling. |
No, when did I say that?
