Forums - Sales Discussion - PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a MAJOR flop - we need to talk about it

@ noname

You have me mistaken. I'm not saying this game isnt a flop or will not flop. I'm not making any assertions (If so, then that is a mistake on my past). Instead, you are making the assumption, or at least it appears that way. Someone asked why this game is a flop, and you gave him reasons why. I don't know if you truly believe this game is a flop, but you have implied it imo.

With that said, my point can be easier explained in my recent thread that I linked you to. It has the data already there.

Back at E3 everyone was saying the PS3 would eat the other consoles alive for the holidays because of the great exclusive content...

PS All Stars, LBP Karting, and Last of Us... Plus Wonder Books for the casuals...

Wow the damage control in this thread is absolutely marvelous, if we had half this effort put into National Disasters recovery would be almost instantaneous. It just amazes me how this went from a "5 million seller" to it will have legs. When was this suppose to dethrone SSB again? lol

Please list two people that said this game would be a "5 million seller." I'll give you one: Gilgamesh. Now, please give me just one more person who said this would be a "5 million seller.

*whistles*

Who the heck predicted that it would do over 15 million in sales lifetime?  Do people even know how different game genres are selling this generation?  I mean, SERIOUSLY people... really?  I saw 10 people in that poll who predicted that.

Keep doing stuff like this, and you will live forever disappointed.

Do you really think rational people voted for that? Those people are called trolls so they can come back later and make threads like this one and use it as evidence that "EVERYONE EXPECTED THIS GAME TO SELL MORE THAN HALO 4!"

Last of Us ended up being a title for next year, LBP Karting, PS All Stars are both flops... Wonder Books is non-existent.

I think PS All Stars and LBP Karting are good games. But, I can't help but think that PSN Plus people are sitting there thinking... "Why buy it when it will show up free in a few months?". As much as PSN Plus has helped Sony fund their network services, I also think the free games part has to be affecting sales of key games like these. I have pretty much stopped buying PS3 games... I just wait for the monthly list and accept the freebies as my PS3 collection now.

How can you call a game a flop if it hasn't even been out for more then two weeks?

Yeah, that's a flop.

@NeoRatt: Thats a good point, haven't thought about it from this angle. Some PS+ people might hold of on buying new games entirely since they are digging through their new free PS+ backlog.

Using amazon sales during cyber week is actually pretty dumb thing to do. People did the same thing to littleBIGplanet. Especially because its back above 50 dollars.

It doesn't matter if it was Cyber something or not, they wouldn't discount the game that hard when it actually sells at the MSRP price point, which it didn't.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

You have no grasp of USA's black friday or the week after then. thousands of retailers drastically cut the price of millions of items (Including things that sell really well). Amazon being an online only store posts their sales the week following thanksgiving.

Items such as microwaves, blenders, toasters and vacuums get slashed by like 50 dollars and sell from 5-20 dollars. Two years ago I bought my mom a Dyson vacuum which was 200 dollars off the retail price which was 50%. TV's get hundreds of dollars slashed off the price tag. Target was selling a 40 inch samsung for 200 dollars. Same with blu-ray players, digital cameras, video game systems and GPS'. 2 years ago Target had a Garmin GPS for 99 dollars which was orginally 250 or 300 I can't remember

And finally media. 20 dollar blu-rays get priced at 5 dollars or below. The lord of the rings trilogy blu-ray box set last year was I think 10 dollars at Target and was originally 50. DVD's get a 1, 2, or 3 dollar price tag. CD's get marked down just as much.... and this also includes video games.

Using your logic Samsung TV's dont sell well.  Garmin GPS don't sell well. Dyson vacuums don't sell well even though they keep their price 300-500 dollars every other day of the year

They also don't just do it with items that make good gifts... I bought a nice warm blanket at target for 5 dollars which was orginally 25 dollars last year... unless blankets make good gifts.

Not only do you have a poor grasp on US sales during their thanksgiving but you also have poor english comprehension.

Probably will top off around 900k.

It did well for a fighter. It was a disappointment to those who thought it would be Super smash brother level of sucess on Sony.
