Singstar will be milked just like Just Dance will be milked. Those games serve their purpose to the casuals. I edited my post though and added some more genres. Platformers are platformers whether they are 2D or 3D they are still apart of the platform genre. SSB is a party brawler, not a technical fighting game and even the developer doesn't consider it a fighting game. SSB once namco touches it will most likely play like a real fighter.

Let's see...

I forgot living room party games and racers (Fzero/mario kart but mario kart). Sony is known now for Platforming (LBP, Sly Cooper), FPS (Killzone, Resistance), TPS (Uncharted), Racing, and custom creation games(LBP, Modnation, etc) hack n slash (God of War) and experimental indy (Flower, Journey flow).  Theres more games to give examples of that list but, yeah.

If you move the bar this low (essentially anything goes), then Nintendo's stable increases dramatically too. Even Microsoft can boast with a varied first party published lineup under your revised conditions, as now everything from Crackdown to XBLA titles will be included. What was your original claim again? Paraphrased: "Nintendo and Microsoft are only known for one or two genres, unlike Sony."

This is well deserving of a

Im not busted, you just dont think Sony is known for anything. I acknowledge the things the other companies are known for.

Sony wants to make money just as much as the both of them, but Sony has a personal goal of being known for quality and quantity. Of course they responded this gen they need to cut back on dead weight games, but still.

And did Sony personally tell you this or did you read it in some sappy PR?

I believe the phrase you're looking for regarding Sony is "jack of all trades, master of none" but you speak about this as if it's their preferred, chosen situation but the fact of the matter is it's not. It's not a good moniker. If people thought of quality when they think of Sony games then they'd sell more.

Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are only in it for the money and couldnt give a rats ass about quality or anyone of us.

^Yeah but some of it has been fun^

Still no Sony numbers though, PR must be working on some spin that doesn't use "Sony Ecosystem" in the report.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

You do realize that your question has nothing to do with my statement?

Platformers and action/adventure.

If that's the bar you choose, then Sony is known for nothing.

I forgot living room party games and racers (Fzero/mario kart but mario kart).

You also forgot fighting games (SSB series) and simulation (Animal Crossing). There are even more that could be added, but we are already looking at six different genres without splitting up platformers up into 2D and 3D games and whatever falls under your definition of living room party games.

And as J_Allard rightfully pointed out, Sony isn't making new IPs out of nobility. They milk what works (70+ SingStar games in eight years speaks volumes) and abandon what fails; and since Sony releases sequels at such a high rate, most of their successful IPs quickly fizzle out, so they are forced to make new ones once again.

70+ singstar games? Really? lmfao. List them please.

@bold
Wrong. Again, care to give examples?

We're not getting Sony numbers unless someone leaks them. You should have learned from last year and the monthly NPD reports.

The Playstion (first as an intended partnership with Nintendo, then solo) brand was made and developed to mainstream new media and harware - CD's, DVD's, Blu-Ray's. It was very successful in this goal. The XBox (first as a partnership with SEGA) brand was made to push the gaming and media capabilities of PC's and prevent a different option from becoming a central computing hub in the home. In particular, in the very late 90's Microsoft was concerned with the stagnation of PC advancement. Microsoft makes most of it's money on new PC purchases with new pre-installed Windows, so a slowing in tech advancement means less new PC's purcahsed. The XBox was designed to push game and multimedia limits which would in turn push PC game and multimedia expectations of consumers, encouraging them to buy new machines. It has always been OK at Microsoft if XBox loses money, as long as it's doing it's job of pushing PC sales.

Developing game software has always been secondary for Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo is the only true "games" hardware company left, but all three just want our money in one way or another.

But great sales for 360, wii and DS, systems that pretty much anyone who wants one already has it!!

Xbox was at first intended to be a partnership with Sega? Nonsense for starters.

The Sony bit is well known and been verified for over 15 years.

The rest is just opinion with a few small well known facts inbetween to give the opinion some credibility.

It's not nonsense. I have a close relation who was responsible for Windows CE at Microsoft. Two years before it was released, he told me they had begun working with SEGA to build the Dreamcast. Dreamcast uses DirectX. It was a partnership intended to help SEGA compete, and promote DirectX for games development. The goal of this (for Microsoft)was to push technology envelopes so people would buy new computers. Regular software such ass Office and Internet Explorer can be run on the most basic systems. Games are the only thing that demand power for most users. At the time the vast majority of games were on consoles. Pushing console games further with Direct X means that PC games (using the same tech) will be pushed further, making users need better systems. This makes new systems trendy and encourages other users (who may not even play games) think they need the latest tech. They buy new PC's.

The Dreamcast failed of course, so then Microsoft decided to make its own machine using DirectX to do the same thing. You can believe me if you want or not, it doesn't matter to me. But that has always been the primary goal of the Microsoft game machine, and why the division is allowed to lose money. They pack as much tech as possible into it to raise the expectations of what software should be. It's a strategy that works wonders for Windows and overall makes lots of money for Microsoft... just not on games.
