And did Sony personally tell you this or did you read it in some sappy PR?
I believe the phrase you're looking for regarding Sony is "jack of all trades, master of none" but you speak about this as if it's their preferred, chosen situation but the fact of the matter is it's not. It's not a good moniker. If people thought of quality when they think of Sony games then they'd sell more.
