Forums - Nintendo - Is there any interest in having a Wii Secret Santa this year?

With more info, maybe I might. I'm willing to put in 10$, for what it means to the Secret Santa thing.

That means a lot for Secret Santa!

Hello everyone! As some of you may know, I used to organize a Wii Secret Santa event every year around this time. Dozens of you in every region participated each year, for which I again thank you. This was possible because of the Wii Shop Gift feature, a marvelous idea which the other consoles should have copied years ago.

I had hoped that successor systems to the Wii and the DS would continue to support the Gift feature, but for whatever stupid reason neither the 3DS nor the Wii U do. However, the Wii Shop remains open, and can be used for both Wii and Wii U owners, so what I'd like to know is if there is any interest in Wii/Wii U owners in having our fourth (mostly-annual: sorry about last year!) Wii Secret Santa event.

Please let me know if you're interested; if there are enough nibbles, I'll start spamming folks' walls in the middle of next week. Please also note that I'm planning on organizing a Steam Secret Santa as well, and that everyone is invited to join either or both. Thank you!

Yes on interest

Current feasibility... if you can find a shop that is selling the vouchers for DL version of Wii U games, those could still be used for "gifting". There is also physical shipment option :)

Future feasibility: The Wii U eShop does have Wish List feature and I read somewhere that gifting option similar to Steam and Wii Shop will return and you will even be able to purchase via Internet and get game delivered to recipient with console (Nintendo Network ID).

Sorry... this will be the first year I have to miss it. :( Too much on WiiU and now so many unfinished games on the backlog.

Yes! It would be great to have it again at least one last year.

I think it was around mid January that I realized that we didn't have one last year. It made me sad.

Regarding current feasibility, we debated doing something similar the first year, but retail games are simply too cost-prohibitive for most people to participate: I never took a poll, but from the questions and responses I received I estimate that the average person gifts about $12-15 dollars worth of games, with the mean being a Super Nintendo or Genesis game. Thus, we've stuck to the Wii Shop, where people have the option of choosing games between $5 and $15 (although they're welcome to purchase multiple gifts for their Tiny Tim).

Regarding future feasibiliity, I hadn't heard about that feature, but I am extremely pleased to hear it. The 3DS also has a wish list, but I hadn't heard even a whisper that gifting was going to return, so I'm glad to hear that the Wii U might re-introduce it.

Yes. But why not include steam, amazon, etc? Also you will need your link avatar back if you do.

Steam is going to have its own separate thread. The logistics of permitting cross-platform gifting would be too demanding on me, since not everyone owns the same platform(s), and you cannot gift or receive a Wii game if you don't own a Wii.

Trollop!!!

the wii has a pretty bad catalog of Wiiware games. I would be game if they allowed you to gift on the wii U. However I already own Nano Assault and little Inferno.

I had 1000 wiiware points from when I did my wii to Wii U transfer that I had forgotten about.  It took me a long time to even purchase anything because I already had most of the good games.  I ended up settling on Art Style:  Rotozoa.  Haven't played it yet, although I did enjoy Art Style: Orbient.

Sounds fun! You can count me in.
