I wasn't saying anything otherwise. I am merely pointing out how in both smartphones (5.2%) and phones in general (2%) Sony is a very small player

As someone else said. Its essentially a duopoly, the rest are fighting for scraps at the moment. If you think Sony will challenge Samsung within a year or so Turkish then you are being very very very optimistic. Also non smartphones are still the biggest part of the market and will be for a few years due to emerging markets. I guess if someone buys your non smartphone then if you have a decent smartphone offering then they may migrate to that?

I didnt realise you were interested in the financial aspects Turkish.  You dont seem to post in the threads where the really important facts are discussed.

Sorry to say that Nokia also losing ground in that market to chinese sets. This is why they have decided not so long ago to focus on smartphones.

yep and I think they will see the rewards of that soon.

the market certainly thinks so, seeing as the market value of Nokia has risen 25% in a week.

25% of peanuts is still peanuts.

A company the size of Nokia operating at a 2.75 a share is seriously pathetic.

The fact that Nokia's shares prices are so low show that investers see Nokia and Windows 8 as a potential flop.

Sony in third place? Tell me something that I don't know

hahahahaha

This has more to do with their entire range being better balanced than the also ran competitors. HTC have the One X then nothing else to compete. The One S and V are overpriced for their markets. The Xperia handsets are well placed and priced to compete hence this turnaround. They'll still not make any in roads to Samsung though who can beat them on both spec and price given their buying and selling power. I hope they keep pushing though as the market needs strong competition.

why am i not surprised to read from people here that they own an xperia? ;)
i don't think their smartphones are bad but i don't see where they really differ to other ones.

Why are you not surprised?

well, a lot of people stay at a brand when buying techie-stuff and this site has a *lot* of sony-fans so it's natural that people who post/discuss here also buy sony-smartphones.

Using that logic, would it not be surprising for an Xbox 360 user to downplay any success Sony has since the Xbox 360 is made by Microsoft?

Success? Not sure. Reduced market share is success?

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2012/11/23/is-sony-gaining-momentum-in-smartphones/

basically they just did less bad than others.  They have gone backwards.

3rd place is theirs, for now, as others went backwards quicker.

PS3 = The first 3rd place console in console history that continues to offer the gaming community some of the best and most 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party exclusives over the competition while outselling the current competition in current sales.  Success.  And yes, I was referring to console gaming since I mentioned the Xbox 360 and the downplaying responses was in regards to the PS3 from several Xbox 360 users (such as yourself) since this is a gaming sales site.

Just shows doesn't it 3rd place..... with a meagre 5.2%

Samsung utterly dominate smartphones right now.

But still a lot better than those Windows smartphones isn't it.

Not relevant, a mouldy piece of bread tastes better than a turd.

Give it a couple years and Sony will rival Samsung.

Says who, you? Oh credible one

They already got the better phone in the Xperia T and V.

Says who, you...again?

Beating Windows smartphones isn't anything to be proud of they have something like 2% of the market or less.

You have nothing to substantiate your statement. It's as stupid as me saying "Give it a couple of years and Samsung will rival Sony at video games".

They don't already have the better phone, that a load of rubbish and you are literally the only person with that opionion.

I'm sorry I didn't say Sony is beating everyone except for Apple and Samsung, and that Sony might be beating them aswel in the future. Because Sony is on a roll ever since they bought out Ericson.

Sony Xperia T and V are awesome, the best dualcore phones out there that even rival quadcore phones like S3 and iPhone 5 in benchmarks.

Xperia Yuga and Odin will smash the competition if the rumors are true.

This is a start I guess, eventhough I don't get the point to brag about a 5% market share. Who the hell cares if you are third, fourth or fifth - a 5% market share is not impressive to me.

Same goes for Windows phones in the OS btw.

There are six billion mobile subscribers on this planet. If you can earn just one dollar from 5% of the mobile market, you have just made a $300 million profit. Yes, I'm muddying the waters between smartphones and dumbphones, but smartphones are already tipping the balance in developed countries, with developing countries sure to follow. The future of the whole mobile phone market is what's at stake here.

Sony's problem isn't marketshare, it's that it can't compete on cost and hasn't yet found a differentiator so they can command a premium for their phones and start earning money.

LOL! Just....no.

There are 7 billion people in the world, you realy thing  a whopping 6 billion of them are paying  a monthly cellphone bill?

He exaggerated, but it's still an incredible high number: 75%

http://mashable.com/2012/07/18/mobile-phones-worldwide/

75% have access doesn't mean they have a cell phone, it's only mean they have a cell signal over where they live so if they buy a cell phone they would be able to use it and when you think that 2.5+billion people live under 2$ a day out of 7billion it's hard to believe the other numbers

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

and this thread is a thread about mobile phoen sales.

Indeed you are correct, sir. So let us (not referring to you) not make assumptions that just because a person buys a PS3 that person is a Sony fan which translate into buying a Sony phone.  Thank you.
