Forums - Nintendo - In case you haven't got a Wii U as yet, IGN gives a decent rundown of the Wii U's OS.

on topic - it does feel slow... for wii u user sake, nint better improve the speed of the overall experience.
BTW the browser it is probably good, but "like others tablets experience" is a false statement. you can't pitch to zoom. he didn't show on the video, but does a double click zoom in and out? if its just with the buttons on the bottom it is even farther then i thought. but then again no one bought it to surf the web... no big deal.

Ninty is doing a lot of updates to the WiiU and to the games like Nintendo Land, so it's clear that they are trying to iron out some of the 'little' issues that the system and games have, sooner rather than later.

I can't tell from your post if you already own a the console, but the browser is very good IMO, and to zoom in and out is very easy on the Gamepad as you just have to move the right stick up or down. And buy the way, to surf the web, is one of the reasons I bought the Wii U, considering how crappy console browsers have been in the past

The thing is evolving almost daily. Load speeds are noticeably slower now than they were initially. I'm actually somewhat confident that going from the console in an off state to actually playing a game is maybe a bit faster than the other HD consoles. The competition just hides their loading better. This is just a theory, though. I'll try it sometime today.

My start screen (Mii Verse) is actually full of people talking about Call of Duty, Black Ops 2, Mighty Switch Force, Netflix, etc. It's really addictive. Imagine a VGChartz forum mixed with Twitter and the ability to like stuff (Yeah!). It's probably my favorite feature.

The Wii U browser has that dancing Mii on the top screen because you don't want people turning on the TV and seeing that you're watching porn. Of course, you can open the curtain and watch your web content on the TV. You can jump to the web browser mid-game, too.

Youtube app just came out this morning. Works well enough though my subscriptions say "No videos available". This will change, soon. It's lightning fast. Will probably jump over my HDTV's default viewer and my PS3/360 as my Youtube viewer of choice. It's already my favorite Netflix player.

It's a nice little overview but there's so much little stuff to discover in the Wii U that I'm still figuring stuff out.

i believe nint will do it... no question there...

no, i do not own a wii u... that is why i did that question... was talking about tablets and for obvious reasons i did forget about the buttons and sticks (lol at me)... nice option. Although, i think everyone can agree that a multitouch would be more natural for smartphone and tablets users to "jump in". it is natural that a brand new console, have a better web browser than other 6 or 7 years old consoles... if it was the other way around, would be a clear sign of the end of times... LOL
still... does the double tap zoom in/out?

Hmmm, I'm not sure, as I don't own a table or a touchscreen phone, so doubble tapping the Gamepad (or even pinching) never crossed my mind . Being a gamer, I just stuck to the sticks and single tapped when I needed to. I have to check a bit later what, if anything, double tapping the Gamepad screen does - or maybe someone else can confirm before then.

I tried it out.  I even made a horrible youtube video (which I may or may not post) showing it.  The Wii U took almost the exact same amount of time getting from the off position to the actual game when compared to the Xbox 360.  I even took things a bit further--from the title screen to the actual game starting, the Wii U got me online and in a team death match FASTER!

How could this be, you ask?  Well, the Wii U goes from the Wii U intro to log in to choosing a game faster than the Xbox goes from 360 intro to log in to choosing game.  The 360 wastes valuable seconds.  Meanwhile, the Wii U is on a static load screen.  The load screen was where the 360 caught up.  Depending on which  console I press "power" first, the winner comes down to about one second.  I tried it multiple times.

So, the Wii U may not be as slow as we make it out to be (though going from game to the title does take a long time and I suspect many apps like Netflix will be a toss up, as well).  The 360 just hides it better.  I didn't toss the PS3 into the equation since, from my experience, the 360 has always been the faster of the two.

Good observations, which I agree with. I think there might be a valid argument as well to say that programs on the Wii U, like Miiverse, might be more taxing on the CPU and system resources than Live (or whatever PS3 uses).

I could only assume that whatever hardware the next PS and Xbox are build on, would cost an arm and leg to get around their OS. So I think gamers should expect to pay a lot for the privilage of those consoles being able running their beefed-up 2013 OS at a speedy pace.

it works fine even if you are a tablet or smart phone user, I have a Transformer Prime and a Galaxy S3 so you can take it from me :) The only downer is no flash support so I can't watch all the po.... I mean, Twitch.TV channels! you can also use the +/- buttons to zoom in and out or use the software +/- tabs. double tap does zoom in and out btw.
