So you guys. Wii U has just hit the US, and lots of people are enjoying it. Many of us in this forum is enjoying it RIGHT NOW.

And with this, the 8th generation of consoles has begun!

This got me thinking; which console shaped the 7th gen the most? Was it the HD twins with their graphical capabilities and online services, or was it the Wii and motion controls?

I'm not quite sure which one I think shaped the 7th gen the most myself.... But for me it's either between Wii or the Xbox. I don't think PS3 brought something new that those two didn't bring before...

Wii & 360

The one and only answer is Wii. It made every other console introduced motion controls and is one of the reasons idiotic terms like "casual" and "hardcore" are so widely used. And made alot of non gamers  play games etc. it is the one console that shaped the other consoles the most and thus shaped the generation the most.

  the 360's main feature is xbox live which was introduced with the original xbox. One could also say the 360 introduced HD gaming  when you exclude PC gaming from the generation. The 360 also made achievements popular right? (well i dont give a f about those...  but still)


The PS3 on the other hand  neither came up with online   nor did it come up with  motion controls  or HD gaming or achivements. The Ps3 is a basically a PS2 with bluray support which actually has not much to do with gaming. 

Edit: The Ps3 made for a good number of laughs because of some funny "fans"   (  just look at this POLL for example :)  ) and it had the OUTAGE!

Going to go with the Wii for the obvious reasons. Even though most third party companies either neglected it or barely tried it still dominated. There are a few third party companies that are doing decently right now but there are a decent amount that are struggling just to get by. It might not be the case but it seems like more third party companies went out of business or are in the red this generation when compared to previous generations.

360 by bringing non-shit online to consoles.

360 because of what it's done to multi player gaming

Wii or 360, I think the poster above adequately explained why not the Ps3.

I voted Wii as it innovated motion controls causing a change in strategy by Microsoft and Sony.

360 and it looks to have the most influence on next gen too.

It's so weird; PS3 and xbox360 is tied neck to neck, but no one's commenting why PS3 shaped this gen?

Shame on you Sony fans! shame on you! Man up and speak up!
