Well, for starters the Wii U does not use USB 3.0. You'll still be able to use it, just you'll be capped at USB 2.0 speed.
Other than that, yeah, I'll be annoyed if I can't properly use the hard drive I've had set aside for a while to use with my Wii U.

I'm fine with being capped at 2.0 speed, I was aware of that. What I'm upset about is if the HDD doesn't work because the Wii U can't power it. Then I'll need to find an HDD that has an external power source or I'll have to buy a Y USB cable to power the HDD through BOTH of the Wii U's usb ports.
And then both USB ports are taken by a single device. Just such a hassle. I'll let you guys know tonight if it works or not. =/

You will more than likely need a Y cable for this drive. If you have any experience at all woking with wires (stripping them, electrical tape, and, that's pretty much it) and have USB cables around they are remarkable easy to make
Also keep in mind the Wii U has 4 USB ports
Also it will appear to work, then if the current draw gets to high, you will get a "The hard drive was disconnected" message, and allso potential freezing on game loading.
