zuvuyeay said: good impressions kanaged, glad to hear about the games sounds like people will need external hard drives with their own power supply for sure then if i understand it correctly and you are playing games form a downloaded game on the hardrive |
You should have no issue with externally powered USB hard drives. If you have a bus powered hard drive however, you more than likely going to need a USB y-cable. What these do is use 2 USB ports to power the device. I had so many USB cables laying around I just made my own, they are very simple to make.

Wow... what the fuck. I was under the impression that we'd have no issues using our HDDs with the Wii U. I just purchased one from Amazon on Saturday and it's coming today or tomorrow in the mail. http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-External-STBX500100/dp/B00834SJSK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1353431119&sr=8-4&keywords=seagate+hdd+500
If it doesn't work, I'm going to rage.

Well, for starters the Wii U does not use USB 3.0. You'll still be able to use it, just you'll be capped at USB 2.0 speed.
Other than that, yeah, I'll be annoyed if I can't properly use the hard drive I've had set aside for a while to use with my Wii U.

What drive is it?

It's a Western Digital Passbook or something like that, been too long since I've really used it. It was the one I used on my Wii. I assume it will be fine but I tend to worry and fret about about things.

If it worked on the wii it should definitely work. It WILL definitely work if it has its own power cord
