Is there any hope for the Vita at this point? Guess and wait to see how well it does in the holidays.

Now that i've seen the reviews for CoD:Declassified (metacritic of 29 out of 100). I think this whole "wait for the holidays"is a delay of the inevitable. The Vita has already lost the thrid party support for next year. Japanese developers are pretty much lost with the 3DS dominating in Japan, and western ones probably wont care for 100-200k sales, despite what ubi soft wants us to believe.

Buying a Vita this holiday season is comparable to flushing the same ammount of money down the toilet.

I like the system, but Sony didnt care anough, how can anyone else?

I still think they should've sticked to the PSP with a new model. It was popular in Japan, it has comparable power to the 3DS and had a stronger installed base. But alas, Sony thought they needed to make a profit from a new hardware release. Wasnt that a grand idea? Instead they could've kept supporting the PSP for another 2 years and then release the Vita at a more manageable price. It was arrogant of them to think they could suceed where Nintendo couldnt. Its 2 systems ampered by arrogance now... will they learn the 3rd time?

omg the meta score of CoD what the heck happened with that?! I'd not heard much after the trailer that was shown about 2 months ago but my god every reviewer in the red so far, that is just awful.

metro gamecentrals' review is actually upsetting

"The very worst thing about Declassified is that in reporting its failure we feel like we're writing an obituary for the PS Vita itself...This was make or break for Sony's portable, but such a shamefully underdeveloped shooter disgraces both the PS Vita and the Call Of Duty franchise."

Sad times.

I read that review. It really sounded apologetic about being so harsh; actually.

Without a price cut I don’t think the Vita is going to do any better, no matter what games are released for it. I think people are now excited about consoles, now the Wii U and in the future the PS4 and Nextbox. This means that people, unless being diehard Sony fans, will not go out and buy a handheld for just one of two games that they can also get for a console that they already own. For example, why in hell would anybody go and buy a Vita just to play Assassins Creed when they already have a PS3 or 360 and Assassins Creed 3 is available? It just doesn’t make any sense.

Your post is very true if we were talking worldwide. However, we are talking solely about Japan, and the Japanese are mad about handhelds. If the Vita can't even sell well there...

But your point is accurate, consoles are the future and handhelds will slowly die out and leave only mobiles etc. in their place

Yeah I did have worldwide in mind. However, even if we're talking about just Japan, while I agree that they are more 'mad' about handhelds than the rest of the world, I still think that Sony’s same nonsensical approach of releasing the same game on their handheld as is available on its console, will still hurt the Vita. Although I do recognize that they have more handheld specific games in Japan than they do in the rest of the world.

As for handhelds fading out of existence, while anything is possible, I don’t think that will happen. I was never one to buy into the rhetoric of tablets and phones taking over the handheld market. One reason being that handhelds will always appeal to a younger audience I think. So parents will always be more inclineed to buy a handheld so Jr. can play games, rather than buying and expensive tablet or smartphone. Additionally, I think Nintendo will always do a good job of making games and new IPs that are only available on their handheld, and thereby justifying a consumer buying a Nintendo handheld over an expensive tablet or phone.

In japan it seems not. SOny either have to bag Final Fantasy or Monster Hunter and a exclusive seems impossible at this point with the 3DS success in Japan. Alternatively they could create a new IP which will would go on to be as big as one of the above titles. Monster Hunter on the PSP was pretty much a over night smash hit, Maybe Soul Sacrifice will replicate some of its success.

In that case, they have to advertise like crazy over here in the Americas. I haven't seen one commercial about it.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

I bet he's eating up those words now, probably being spoon fed a helping of um with each weekly sales report.
