Without a price cut I don’t think the Vita is going to do any better, no matter what games are released for it. I think people are now excited about consoles, now the Wii U and in the future the PS4 and Nextbox. This means that people, unless being diehard Sony fans, will not go out and buy a handheld for just one of two games that they can also get for a console that they already own. For example, why in hell would anybody go and buy a Vita just to play Assassins Creed when they already have a PS3 or 360 and Assassins Creed 3 is available? It just doesn’t make any sense.

Your post is very true if we were talking worldwide. However, we are talking solely about Japan, and the Japanese are mad about handhelds. If the Vita can't even sell well there...

But your point is accurate, consoles are the future and handhelds will slowly die out and leave only mobiles etc. in their place

Yeah I did have worldwide in mind. However, even if we're talking about just Japan, while I agree that they are more 'mad' about handhelds than the rest of the world, I still think that Sony’s same nonsensical approach of releasing the same game on their handheld as is available on its console, will still hurt the Vita. Although I do recognize that they have more handheld specific games in Japan than they do in the rest of the world.

As for handhelds fading out of existence, while anything is possible, I don’t think that will happen. I was never one to buy into the rhetoric of tablets and phones taking over the handheld market. One reason being that handhelds will always appeal to a younger audience I think. So parents will always be more inclineed to buy a handheld so Jr. can play games, rather than buying and expensive tablet or smartphone. Additionally, I think Nintendo will always do a good job of making games and new IPs that are only available on their handheld, and thereby justifying a consumer buying a Nintendo handheld over an expensive tablet or phone.
