Forums - Gaming - Did you switched favorite gaming companies this gen?

Company Last gen This gen

Square Enix loved them It is hard to forgive them for FFXIII.

Rockstar (GTA) liked them GTA IV was painfull but Red dead Redemption did so much good.

Naughty Dog Adored them I miss to much their platform games. How AAAAAA franchise Uncharted may be it never will be like Crash or Jax and daxter,

Insomniac Almost adored them R&C was fun but did not improved enough for me and...Resistance..Well I wished they did not put time in that franchise. I would forgive them if they had to make the franchise because of Sony..

Atlus loved them Where the fuck is persona 5???

Valve loved them for HL 1/2 This gen they dissapoint me, Left for dead 2 still feels like a cash-in.. Portal was great same for Portal 2 but still no episode 3 :(?

And so on..... If I didn't had to work I would write more opinions..

Kind of. Or at least I switched my favorite hardware developer. This generation I have spent far more time on the Xbox 360 than the Wii while most of my Wii playtime was spent playing Gamecube games...

Nintendo is and has always been my favorite software developer though, so on that front nothing has changed.

I had a nes, a snes and GB. The I switched to PS1, PS2 and PS3. I still bought a GBA in those days though. So, I'm a Sony player.

But this generation I've played Nintendo games with my girlfriend's Wii and 360 games at my cousin's house.
In the past generations everyone I knew owned a PS or PS2

Did you change your favorite console developer this gen or is it the same as always. If so what did you like before and what did you swtich to?

I came close to switching what I considered my favorite at one point this current gen (with the 360) but since I owned all consoles it did not occur. Primarily my feelings at the time were, if I am having fun, and enjoying it, then I don't care what brand it is. However I realized many of the games I thought would be fun were rather boring, the console ended up sitting there for quite a long time unused (equally my PS3 has done the same). I then realized something pretty important. I am a member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race and pretty much every multi-platform game I want to play will be on my beastly computer that no current or upcoming generation will match. It led me down a pretty clear path, I have always really favored Nintendo, and I will always continue to do so, if stupid companies like EA want to try and damage them with their actions, I do not have to support them (as hard as it will be for some of my favorite franchises) but for a company like Nintendo I will support them and enjoy their products, my kids enjoy their products as does my family in general. So if anything I have wavered this past generation but come back fully in support of my PC/Nintendo gaming ways.

Change the title of this thread.  It makes you sound dumb.  It's not switched, it's switch.

From Nintendo my entire life to Xbox360 then after my 360 broke i switched to ps3.
Now after a few years im only loyal to myself and what ever is good, and all 3 have something thats good right now. Also, gaming pc forever.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

2006 I was set to buy a Wii. Went with 360 instead.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

nintendo to sony.

Oh bloody hell, the inane milking topic has started up again. I wish people would shut up about that and realize that ALL big-time developers are run by business-people who will absolutely return to a franchise as long as demand exists. Yes, that means Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, among many, many others. If anyone is so personally invested in their console and corporation of choice that this hurts their feelings then I'm sorry--except not really. Whomever brought this up first should probably be moderated to the head with a blunt object.

I, for one, am pretty excited about what new IPs we'll see with the next generation, especially if there are any that were deferred because they couldn't be done properly in this generation. Kind of like how superhero movies used to suck before technology made them look believable.

I also think Microsoft could score big by creating a few new IPs in non-shooter genres. They did well with Forza, for example, so why not create their own fighting game or platformer? Or will all their new IP be Kinect-based?

Let´s see...as far as 3rd parties are concerned: this generation has cemented that SquareEnix is dead to me (only good thing they´ve done, imo, is to publish Sleeping Dogs), Capcom has fallen hard, I remain indifferent to Namco, Tecmo (and more specifically, Team Ninja) has also fallen...overall, I´d say that in my book, Japanese 3rd parties have fallen quite a bit this generation. The only ones I like nowadays are Platinum, From Software (because of Demons/Dark Souls) and a bit of Konami (only because of Metal Gear).

That brings me to this point: this 7th generation is the first where most of the games I enjoy are from Western devs, in past generations my library of games was made up of 90% of titles from Japanese devs, and the 10% left was Western, this time it´s almost the other way around.

Bethesda (despite the bugs) with the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, Bioware with the Mass Effect series (despite the ending debacle), Naughty Dog with Uncharted, Epic with Gears of War, Halo, Dead Space, Bioshock, Batman Arkham games, etc..are all games I´ve come to really like this gen.

Ditto, and that goes for alot of people too.  The funny thing is that the home video game industry has now come full circle... it started off in the West as college eggheads and computer engineers gave birth to what would eventually become modern video games.  Then after the big crash the videogame industry became dominated by Japanese companies who, with the exception of some failed attempts by Atari and Phillips, were the exclusive manufacturers of video game consoles until the Xbox hit in 2001.  Now the West is leading the charge in game development on consoles once again.

Of course, this only applies to home consoles... PC's have been dominated by western developers since day 1 and continue to do so.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
