Forums - Nintendo - Animal Crossing New Leaf Sold Out, Over 200k in Digital Sales!

200k digital is an impressive feat, but not all of is actually digital if you know what I mean. I'd love to know how many of these digital downloads were from those download codes they sold at retail.

I doubt we'll get a breakdown between which were purchased via the download card and which were purchased via the eShop iself.

However, it's all irrelevant when you consider that either way the game was still downloaded digitally.  The point of sale doesn't really matter.  It's the method of product distribution that is the key factor.

You've been claiming it can't handle 200k and that the infrastructure is somehow weaker (you do realize that the 3DS online infrastructure is now powered by the Nintendo Network rather then the old GameSpy powered Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection system, don't you).  You even stated that the 3DS eShop is somehow insufficient to enable 200k in digital downloads.   Do you have any data to back up any of those claims?

The rEVOLution is not being televised

VGKing, man, that was a really baseless claim. This is exactly the sort of thing i meant by random, baseless claims of factuality completely destroying the arc of a thread.

Yeah, what VGKing said doesn't really make any sense at all, because whether they used a download code at retail or got it from the eShop doesn't change anything in terms of traffic.  Regardless of whatever VGKing says, it is still 200k downloads in less than a full week.

Stores have also been selling digital download cards for the game, and those too have sold out

Does not compute.

It's a physical object, like a credit card.

Obviously, you don't need them, just go to the e-shop and download the game. But this improves visibility.

Also keeps retailers from being completely phased out during the push to digital.

BTW, this thread was a lot of fun to read through. Thanks, VGKing!

Don't worry people. A game can sell well digitally on a Nintendo platform in Japan. I know those words shouldn't go together, but it has happened. The curse... has been broken!

OT: Great numbers on both formats! Can't wait until to see how this effects 3DS hardware sales!

I'm also looking forward to this week's hardware numbers...
Apparently the bundle sold quite well.

Can you be more specific?

To be clear, all of this is my opinion/educated guess.

I guess in simplest terms, Nintendo's online offerings aren't popular enough to get digital downloads that high.

Oh and BTW, reported.

He's not banned, so I'm just guessing the mods have been wise enough not to take you seriously. Serves you right.

Don't give a crap. reported him and that's that.
They'll get to it eventually.

Insulting another user is bannable. trust me, I know.
