Forums - Sony - Is the PS4 Sony's last big effort?

I'm just scared of these 3D rumors if Sony may go with for the PS4, seems like a dead end, now this virtual reality prototype, that could be something interesting to follow.

1. Sony is fine. Not going bankrupt any time soon.
2. PS4 will be sold at a loss, just like all other Sony consoles. It will be a powerhouse.(No, they won't repeat the same mistakes as the PS3)
3. 1 single device alone can't "save" a company. Even if the PS4 was sold at a nice profit from Day 1 and sold 100million units lifetime, Sony's TVs will still be losing money, they'll still won't have a phone competing with the iPhone or Galaxy...

Is this a troll thread?

2012: Where everyone who isn't as informed as you is under suspicion of trolling.

Sony is doing fine as far as their gaming division. We will see other major departments cut before you need to worry about the fate of the PS4. Restructuring will be their saving grace.

Their gaming division isn't doing fine though. They are losing money because Vita isn't picking up. The division might be doing the best but it is still making losses. They've already closed two studios this year because of it.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

Well it's not looking good obviously, thread after thread I'm getting more and more discouraged that my favorite gaming company is doing worst and worst (A lot of double words there). There doesn't seem to be anything big for the future on other Sony gadgets except for the PS4, so can Sony afford to release a console that will cost them money for maybe another year? will they attempt at a profitable console?

It really seems like the PS4 is the only thing they have left up there sleeves (if there's something else out there that there working on that looks like it can make them some good profit please let me know so I can keep an eye on it), so if it does horrible could this bankrupt Sony? Could it be the end of Sony's gaming division? it's really scary I'm to old to develope another hobby!

dude you are delusional you're letting the bullshit articles on internet affect you! nothing will happen, mega big companies like Sony can't go bankrupt and simply vanish! And i really don't care about Sony's other products i only care about the playstation brand and that brand is not going anywhere.

Last quarter was the first time in recent history their gaming division posted a net loss. It was expectable because of the launch of new hardware. However because of Sony's situation as a whole this loss was too much to handle so Zipper and Liverpool got shut down to help with short term profit.

Vita had Uncharted Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Modnation Racers, Street Fighter vs Tekken, Silent Hill, FIFA, Metal Gear HD Collection, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden, Resistance, Marvel vs Capcom, Little Big Planet, Ratchet & Clank, Rayman, and will have soon CoD, ACIII, NFS, PSASBR, Sly Cooper, another Ninja Gaiden and Soul Sacrifice. But even with all these games and famous franchises, it doesn't sell well, so Why PS4 would sell well?

We need moar Zelda, now!

We need moar Unchartedzz!

We need less DLCs.

3D isn't a problem, it's just an other feature that's is nice to have. They won't lose money supporting 3D (PS3 got it in a firmware upgrade, so no special hardware is required), and the 3D TVs are becoming more popular. When we got the first cheap models without glasses, it will be another boom for the tech. So it's a good featire to have.

kowenicki, the source of this data has the meaning of the shortenings? Looks like they have two very sick divisions, while the others are doing fine.

It remains to be seen if the PS4 is ever released. If Sony collapses within the next couple of years, the Playstation brand goes down with it.

But it does already disprove your comment about it not effecting ps4. As soon as liverpool got shut their projects were announced to be cancelled with them. Shortly after eurogamer says a ps4 game was cancelled so there goes one ps4 game already.

Spoiler Alert: they were making wipeout PS4. Don't worry, the game just switched hands.
