#43: TimeSplitters 2 (2002)
Last Year: New

Another genre I really have little interest in is the FPS genre. Don't get me wrong, I've always enjoy the occasional deathmatch with friends, but I never feel like I'm missing anything with the majority of the genre. But every once in a while, there comes a game that's too fun to ignore, despite its genre. TimeSplitters 2 is one of those games. One of the reasons why I enjoyed this game so much (and why it was so appealing from the start), is that it has a sense of humor and that it doesn't take itself seriously. It focuses on delivering great controls and fun gameplay... and everything else comes second. It's great to sit back and enjoy yourself from the start, and the game's time-traveling theme allows the game to remain fresh and exciting the whole way through. I haven't even gotten to the multiplayer, which once again focuses on the basics, and ends up with everyone having a great and fun time. The game's beauty is in the fact that it knows its a video game, and that it excells in being one.

To a certain extent. At the beginning of the game you are brought back from the future (just you), and I think you're sent back at the end.

I'm stumped. Is it an old game?

PS2 exclusive. Released towards the beginning of the lifecycle.

What if I were to tell you that several games from this license have been developed, and that the license was first turned into a popular TV show?

And if I were to add that even if you've never watched the show, you've probably watched some sort of...shortened version of it?

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelists of the Roses?

!!!

Correct!

Really underrated game.

43) Yu-Gi-Oh: The Duelists of the Roses (PS2 / 2003 / Card Battle)

This game has a metascore somewhere in the low 60s which I feel is entirely undeserved. I admit that I am a big fan of the TV show, card game and abridged series, but the latter didn't even exist at the time. Sure, it wasn't historically accurate, but it was a creative setting, and the gameplay was an interesting take on a card game that I greatly enjoy.

Game 42.

Short but sweet. Some people think it's better than its (fairly recently released) sequel, but I disagree.

I think this sets a record for the fastest any game has been guessed. Ah well, makes up for yesterday's obscure title.

I learn from the best.

Hint for game #42:

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
