Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your Top 50 Games: 2012 Discussion Thread: FINISH YOUR LISTS

Yesterday was a pretty hectic day, so I forgot to update >_<.

36th - Shadow Hearts (PS2, 2002)
One of the very few games that really took me by surprise because I wasn't expecting it to be as great as it was. I bought Shadow Hearts while waiting for Kingdom Hearts to come out and I was going through a RPG drought in those days. What I got from Shadow Hearts was an experience like few games have given me (and was surpassed largely when it's sequel released, but more on that when I reach it on my list).
With a very grim and dark story which could easily put it into the Horror realm in some parts (Smuggler's Boat, Orphanage anyone?) it also had a very well thought character development when it came to it's two primary protagonists, Yuri and Alice, whom also shared some of the best dialogue in the game as well.
Shadow Hearts also had another major plus; it's battle system. It's innovative Judgment Ring system put a very strategic and timing based characteristics in every action that you performed, forcing you to not only be on your toes on every battle, but also to improve your skills as well.
Also, the game was packed with sidequests, minigames and a plethora of extra content which rivalled and sometimes surpassed the story-worth of the main quest.

35. Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy (3DS) - I hadn't expected it to be great, but it actually turned out to be awesome!

35th - System Shock II (PC, 1999)
One word: SHODAN. One of the best villains ever created for any media, and not just videogames, overall. While the game stands on very solid merits of it's own, SHODAN elevates the game to the heights of one of the best ever created. The cliffhanger in the end after defeating her on the virtual space left me shouting at the screen for a couple of minutes when I completed the game, it was that good and nerve-wrecking xD.
While SHODAN's presence makes the game great, it also some other good implementations as well. The mixed FPS/RPG/Survival Horror approach from the System Shock series was pretty novel for the era and on the second game it was vastly improved upon. It's branched character creation, with each class getting unique bonuses at the start also opened plenty of replayability options as well. With the very limited amount of ammunition, weaponry and tools you can accumulate during the game, weapon maintenance (melee especially) was essential for the survival and ultimate goal of destroying SHODAN.

Number 34 introduced an online component to one of the longest running videogame series in existence.

Q*bert?

Correct system. At least the one Q*Bert was developed for and not the ones it was ported to.

I am looking for a simpler game though.

Pong?

EDIT: Removing the rest cuz I'm so dumb XP

A little more complicated than that , but the year is not far off.

Think 'missile shield'.

Space Invaders?

So close, I actually have a 2600 boxed with two stickers on it: "Includes Space Invaders" and "Includes ...."

I'm running out of ideas....Yars' Revenge?

Hehehe.

Same color box-art, which is orange. I'll post it in an hour.

I was gonna say Bioshock...

And if you did, you would be correct.

Sander Cohen was the first hint.

And Vita Chambers was the second. ^_~

What the hell is a Vita Chambers and what does that have to do with Bioshock o.O? Is it a dungeon or level?

A Vita Chamber is where you respawn when you die.

41. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - A great RPG where you could combine shooting, hacking, stealthing and talking.

40. Wario Land 4 - The cooler Mario.

39.Age of Empires III - Brilliant RTS from Ensemble. Sad that it would be the last Age of...

38. Heroes of Might and Magic V - Great game with awesome campaign. Also the Heroes I played most by far, including all expansions

37. Phoenix Whright - In the real world, there nothing worse than having to learn law stuff. But Phoenix Whright makes being a Lawyer, although a pretty unrealistic one, just so much fun. Amazing characters, especially the best prosecutor of all, Edgeworth. Five cases and particularly case 4 makke it my favorite in the series.

36. Advance Wars: Dual Strike - Amazing game. The most complete Advance Wars I played, with tons of stuff to do and tons of commanders.

34th hint:
- The second to last 2D game of a franchise that has been on all major Ninteno systems.
