What was the logic for what you filtered out in the 2nd list?

Anyways, that's a very interesting list. We can then offer that list to naysayers and ask if they would like any of those games. If not, then it's fundamental they answer the condition for them liking a game.

In the end, if you can show that their goalposts are unreasonable, then you win.

Why do we have a Nintendo defense thread if only us Nintendo fans are posting? :p

Well the other users are probably watching us from the distance...

Nintendo and PC gamer

Well my list goes for all the PS/Xbox fans who claim Wii has a weak or small 3rd party game library
but it also goes for HappyD ;)

In order to have a serious conversation about Nintendo in general and the seventh generation in particular, you need everyone to agree on two things:

One, there are no such things as hardcore games and casual games. Video games can be classified according to a number of criteria -- genre, ESRB rating, developer, publisher -- but to separate games into hardcore and casual is counterproductive.

Two, there is a difference between descriptive words and normative words. "Violent," "dark," and "mature" are useful in describing a game, but not useful in assigning value.

If everyone can agree on those two things, then maybe we can have a healthy debate.

Can the OP change the thread title from "Defence" to "Defense". The enemy will never take us seriously like this.

It's just a ruse to make Them think we're all British, and therefore proper. They'll lower their guard and then *WHAM!* we sic Rol on them.

Speaking collectively for the internet, we reject your deal.

Those pesky minorities are it again with their constructive criticism.

Core and casual has been used to distinguish between a few things, hence why they are so hard to follow in a debate. To distinguish between:

1) Games that habitual gamers play and non-habitual gamers play.
2) Games that are traditional, and games that are a new type of experience.
3) Games that tend to require a sit-down period and those that are pick up and play.
4) Games that have darker themes and games that have lighter themes.
5) Games that have more violent and sexual themes, and those that do not.
6) Games that have kiddy themes and those that do not.
7) Games that evoke deeper emotions and those that do not.
8) Games with intricate art design and those that are simplistic.

The list continues.

But in the end, what matters is what the person using the word is trying to express. If Core and Casual are words that don't work for you, there's a reason. It's because they are so broad for the time being. Until people use more precise words to denote what they mean, we are left with asking the question.

Thing is, using that list what's core and what's casual fluctuate over time. SMB isn't a core game by that standard, nor is NSMB. It could be argued that Zelda SS in certain regards is a casual game... And where does that list leave strategy games? They don't really have dark themes - or light themes either. They're not that violent nor sexual... But they're not kiddy games either... And do they evoke deeper emotions? I don't think so... And quite often they have rather simplistic art styles...

I think that Veknoid made a great post about how to talk about games!!!
