Quick time events? A city full of nothing to do? Every object is manuseable but do absolutely nothing? Shenmue sucks. Let it rot in its coffin of unfulfilled promis.

There are much better games that Nintendo can fund.

What a dumbfounded comment. Shenmue was the first game that let you do that. It was released in a time before the PS2 sandboxes even started.

Of course the formula would have to be improved. Look at the Yakuza games. More in that style. The story and characters are incredible aswell as the setting, so have a bit of respect and sense that people actually enjoy this series and it was quite good for its time.

I'd take a new shenmue over a GTA anytime of the week. That series has been stale since GTA3. Its always the same game in a different setting.

Sleeping dogs for example, is the example of a game that tries to move things forward. And its one i recommend to shenmue fans in the meanwhile.

The only thing Shenmue pioneered was in the nothing-to-do-ness department. Shenmue is boring as hell, sleep inducing, slooooooow and uninteresting. Let's not even get into its ''fighting system''. Spend that money in something better. Let that crap stay in the past.

Sorry, but you dont know what you're talking about.

Shenmue is a sandbox world where you live in. Its a representation of an era that now doesnt exist anymore. It is amazing.

Its a shame you cant just steal cars and make everything explode with guns and all that. I'm sure that would fit your quota of "lots of fun", but some people know how to enjoy other kinds of experiences aswell.

Haven't played 1 or 2 (yet) ...
and if they release a 3rd part I hope they will do a Shenmue 1-3 HD collection ...

but I doubt it :(

I think Nintendo should just buy sega.

There has to be some kind of flaw in your criteria if Shenmue is no longer made, sold relatively poorly and the competitor you lament is one of the best selling franchises ever.

really? We must have played different games. The Shenmue I played had stupid forklift races, boring driving segments. You could'nt even speed up time like Ocarina of Time (which came b4). You had to literally wait for the time to pass doing (guess what?) absolutely nothing. Steal cars? Explode with guns? Probably the secong game? That 1 that bombed even harder than the 1st bcause no1 was willing to give the game another chance? I know I didn't and many others. Rest in peace Shenmue. I'm glad the second 1 bombed even harder closing Shuenmue's coffin for good. Its like a sleepy snail in a sandbox.

Why do you assume he would prefer steal cars and make things explode? You realize there are more selections than GTA and Shenmue.

Also:

dumbfoundedpast participle, past tense of dumb·found

Verb:
Greatly astonish or amaze: "they were dumbfounded at his popularity".

We already know that the story for Shenmue 3 was already made. They just need a backer.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

What I did like about Shenmue was that everybody--every single person in the game had a life. They had a home to go to, a place they hung out at after work, friends they would meet in back alleys, and something to say. Every drawer had something inside of it (even if it was just a 2D pic most of the time). Events occured at certain times. The arcade had actual games in it. It was the closest thing we had to a living, breathing gaming world. In that respect, it WAS an impressive game. I just think it is a premise that people won't get behind these days.

That was pretty funny. I'm sure that's not what he says in Japanese.

I skipped the video to avoid potential spoilers of a game that may never get made.  I'm glad HappyDolphin commented or I would have missed out on that gem.  I literally laughed out loud!
