A recent IDC study came out saying that 3 out of every 4 smartphones is android based.  Wow, I didn't expect that. I'm hoping that the stragglers, i.e  RIM and Symbian die quickly, and better platforms take the space that they had.

Pretty crazy, but I'd assume this is US only? No way this is the case in Europe or Canada.

Nope it's worldwide, look at the last bit of text in the link. Android is known as slightly more of a budget platform than apple or rim or msft. So, that could explain its greater popularity worldwide.

Come to think of it, everyone I know who's bought a phone recently got an android device (of course most don't really know/care much what OS they get lol)

My granny has an Android phone. Do you know why? Because it costed £7.50.

The entire Android OS is garbage, the overwhelming majority of people only buy them because they're dirt cheap.
