I love both games and they are both masterpieces in my eyes (even if I prefer 2 over 1.) 97% seems high for an average game rating, but SMG is still very amazing game and I guess is now worthy of being the highest rated game ever.

OoT is still on 99 on Metacritic. Game Rankings hand picks their game reviews for modern games more so than Metacritic which is quite a feat, so I never rely on them.

Well it's not even the best galaxy game, 2 is better.
or 3D mario. Mario 64 is one of my top 5 favorite games ever, whereas galaxy isn't probably in my top 100. Despite at times having slightly wonky controls.

though Galaxy 2 is the better game

it makes sense that Galaxy 1 is higher rated

Amazing game, to say the least. I always liked the gametrailers review of mario galaxy because they nailed what makes mario galaxy one of the greatest games ever (OoT is IMO the best game ever)

Deserves it to every bit. Freaking awesome game. I never experienced such a rewarding and complete experience from any other game. A complete trip to a whole new dimension in gaming.

Oh, and I should mention this game wasn't turning my head at first.

Never played SMG, but i played a lot of SMG2 and i think its a fantastic game, original and beautiful,
but i prefer exploration over tight, fluid and linear level design
